Collision-sport athletes, such as rugby players, are at risk of sport-related concussion (SRC). Women are known to be at higher risk of SRC and may experience more severe and chronic symptomology than men. Knowledge of the factors that affect a player's disclosure of their concussive symptoms could help to inform strategies to improve compliance with reporting and management of head injuries.

This analysis assessed the effect of short-term (3 double-blind [DB] studies: DB1, DB2, and DB4) or long-term maintenance treatment (DB3) with esketamine nasal spray (ESK) compared with a placebo (PBO) combined with active-comparator, on cognition in patients with TRD.
Methods: Patients (DB1/DB2/DB3: [18-64 years, n = 747]; DB4: [65 years or older, n = 137]) with TRD received ESK (DB1/DB2/DB3: 56/84 mg; DB4: 28/56/84 mg) or PBO+newly initiated oral antidepressant (OAD) as per treatment schedules.
Introduction This study analyzes the rise in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses by comparing pre-pandemic (2017-2019) and pandemic period (2021-2023) data from two private pediatric practices with different populations in New York. The year 2020 was out of the analysis to focus on the impact after the shutdowns on ASD, and there were disruptions in clinic operations during that year. Clinic I primarily served an African-American ethnic population, while Clinic II primarily served an Asian population.

Injury prevention/reduction strategies are driven by data collected through injury surveillance systems. The aim of this review was to describe injury surveillance systems that are used for ongoing surveillance in either a professional or amateur sporting environment. This was an update to a review done in 2015 to determine the gaps in injury surveillance.

The focus of this qualitative research was to interview current and retired Gaelic games athletes to ascertain how athletes viewed concussion recognition and management. A grounded theory methodology design was utilised to investigate concussion recognition and management experiences of a cohort of Gaelic games athletes (n = 22). Data for the study were collected using a semi-structured interview format.

Ocular tools and technologies may be used in the diagnosis of sport-related concussions (SRCs), but their clinical utility can vary. The following study aimed to review the literature pertaining to the reliability and diagnostic accuracy of such assessments. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) extension for scoping reviews was adhered to.

The Previous Concussion in Sport Group iterations lack guidance for parasport SRC assessment, management, and return-to-play.

Adolescents who are at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR) are identified based on the presence of subthreshold psychosis symptoms.

One possible mechanism is increased oxidative stress leading to altered neurodevelopment and brain function. However, this hypothesis has mostly been tested in post-mortem studies.

The present study aims to evaluate opportunities and challenges to both injury prevention and management in amateur female sport, as experienced by mixed-gender coaches, allied healthcare professionals, and general practitioners.
Methods: Semi-structured virtual interviews of coaches, allied healthcare professionals, and general practitioners ( = 25), recruited via convenience snowball sample.
Sub-lethal effects of warming temperatures are an important, yet sometimes overlooked impact of climate change that may threaten the long-term survival of numerous species. This, like many other effects of climate change, is especially concerning for cold-adapted ectotherms living in rapidly warming polar regions. This study examines the effects of warmer temperatures on cold-adapted Diptera, using the long-lived sub-Antarctic sphaerocerid fly, Anatalanta aptera, as a focal species.

Northwestern University's Center for Scalable Telehealth Cancer Care (STELLAR) is 1 of 4 Cancer Moonshot Telehealth Research Centers of Excellence programs funded by the National Cancer Institute to establish an evidence base for telehealth in cancer care. STELLAR is grounded in the Institute of Medicine's vision that quality cancer care includes not only disease treatment but also promotion of long-term health and quality of life (QOL). Cigarette smoking, insufficient physical activity, and overweight and obesity often co-occur and are associated with poorer treatment response, heightened recurrence risk, decreased longevity, diminished QOL, and increased treatment cost for many cancers.

In 2014, an Irish parliament white paper called for greater addressing of sport-related concussions (SRCs) in Ireland, requesting the adoption of the Concussion in Sport Group's (CISGs) guidelines and greater consistency in SRC return to play (RTP) management. Ten years later, it is unclear how these requests have been addressed. Recently, the United Kingdom's government centralised guidelines to one SRC document for all grassroots sports.

Methodology: An adapted version of a previously developed and validated questionnaire was distributed online to ultra-endurance runners, recognized as those who completed a single bout of exercise lasting 4 or more hours. The questionnaire asked about carbohydrate awareness and sourcing, and dietary practices, particularly in relation to GIS management.
The growing scale and dimensionality of multiplexed imaging require reproducible and comprehensive yet user-friendly computational pipelines. TRACERx-PHLEX performs deep learning-based cell segmentation (deep-imcyto), automated cell-type annotation (TYPEx) and interpretable spatial analysis (Spatial-PHLEX) as three independent but interoperable modules. PHLEX generates single-cell identities, cell densities within tissue compartments, marker positivity calls and spatial metrics such as cellular barrier scores, along with summary graphs and spatial visualisations.

Implementation of these measures into clinical practice has been hampered by lack of clarity on what to measure and how to do this in a reliable and standardized way.
Objective: To develop a core set of outcome measures for specific neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), communication disorders, specific learning disorders, and motor disorders, that may be used across a range of geographic and cultural settings.
Objective: To report gross anatomical gastrointestinal measurements and compare enterotomy leak pressures between fresh and cooled feline cadavers.
Study Design: Ex vivo, randomized study.
Animals: Fresh feline cadavers (n = 20).
Importance: Lifestyle interventions for weight loss are difficult to implement in clinical practice. Self-managed mobile health implementations without or with added support after unsuccessful weight loss attempts could offer effective population-level obesity management.
Objective: To test whether a wireless feedback system (WFS) yields noninferior weight loss vs WFS plus telephone coaching and whether participants who do not respond to initial treatment achieve greater weight loss with more vs less vigorous step-up interventions.
Background: The underlying neurobiology of the complex autism phenotype remains obscure, although accumulating evidence implicates the serotonin system and especially the 5HT receptor. However, previous research has largely relied upon association or correlation studies to link differences in serotonin targets to autism. To directly establish that serotonergic signalling is involved in a candidate brain function our approach is to change it and observe a shift in that function.

Dysregulation of the complement activation is among emerging candidates responsible for disease pathogenesis. In a targeted exomic sequencing study we identified 14 variants within nine genes coding for components of the membrane attack complex (MAC, C5b-9) that are associated with preeclampsia.

Cessation of therapy with a selective serotonin (5-HT) reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) is often associated with an early onset and disabling discontinuation syndrome, the mechanism of which is surprisingly little investigated. Here we determined the effect on 5-HT neurochemistry of discontinuation from the SSRI paroxetine. Paroxetine was administered repeatedly to mice (once daily, 12 days versus saline controls) and then either continued or discontinued for up to 5 days.
