Background: Persons with severe mental illness (SMI) reportedly have a high mortality rate due to metabolic syndrome (MS). However, lifestyle modification (LM) offers effective management of some components of MS. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of LM in reducing body-weight-related parameters in SMIs.

Barriers in Accessing Social Welfare Benefits for Families of Children With Intellectual and Developmental Disorders in Rural Karnataka: A Situation Analysis.

Background: Several government schemes exist for the welfare of families having children with intellectual and developmental disorders (IDDs) in India. However, these schemes are often not utilized. An understanding of the barriers to access these social welfare benefits, especially in rural areas of India, can aid in planning social action toward the implementation of these schemes.

Feasibility testing of a supported education programme for students with severe mental disorders.

Introduction: Most supported education studies stop at discussing the academic problems of students with severe mental diseases (SMDs) without going into testing of appropriate and culturally relevant supported education interventions required for academic reintegration of students with SMDs. In this context, the researcher felt the need to test the feasibility of a need-based supported education programme (SEP) for students with SMDs to help them achieving higher education goals.

Methodology: This study was reviewed and approved by the Institute's Ethics Committee (NIMHANS) and it was also registered in the Clinical Trials Registry - India (CTRI): CTRI/2018/07/014828.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is reportedly associated with high mortality from mostly cardiovascular causes in patients with severe mental disorders (SMD). Lifestyle interventions augment effective management of MS in patients with SMD. The present meta-analysis aims at updating the recent evidence on the effectiveness of lifestyle intervention for MS in patients with SMD.
