Background: Healthcare-associated infection (HAI) is a major problem in healthcare facilities and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and prolonged hospital stay. This study aims to determine the incidence rate, risk factors, and bacterial aetiology of HAI in a tertiary care hospital in Mansoura, Egypt.
Methods: This is a prospective observational study carried out over 12 months in different departments of Mansoura New General Hospital (MNGH).

Methods: Eighty-six sites with pocket depth (PD) >4 mm were selected from five systemically-healthy patients in whom scaling, and root planing were performed, and oral instructions were given, a week earlier. PD, gingival index (GI), plaque index (PI), and bleeding on probing (BOP) were measured, and sites were then divided into the control group (N = 38) and GSE group (N = 48).
