AHA/ASA guidelines recommend patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) be considered for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) evaluation, given the high prevalence of OSA and improved outcomes for cerebrovascular disease when OSA is treated. However, OSA testing has not been incorporated into routine cerebrovascular management. We interviewed 30 patients hospitalized for acute stroke/TIA at six Veterans Affairs facilities participating in a stepped-wedge implementation trial to improve timely OSA testing after stroke/TIA.

The para spin isomer of hydrogen gas possesses high nuclear spin order that can enhance the NMR signals of a variety of molecular species. Hydrogen is routinely enriched in the para spin state by lowering the gas temperature while flowing through a catalyst. Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 1 (PFIC1) is an inherited, progressive cholestatic liver disease. The isomeric enrichment of parahydrogen (pH) gas is readily accomplished by lowering the gas temperature in the presence of a catalyst. This enrichment is often pursued at two distinct temperatures: ∼51% pH is generated at liquid nitrogen temperatures (77 K), while nearly 100% pH can be produced at 20 K. While the liquid nitrogen cooled generator is attractive due to the low cost of entry, there are benefits to having access to greater than 51% pH for enhanced NMR applications.

Ewing sarcoma is an EWS-ETS family member-driven malignancy that most commonly arises from bone. Cutaneous Ewing sarcoma is a rare variant which harbors an EWS-ETS family fusion but demonstrates an immunohistochemical staining pattern distinct from classic Ewing tumors. EWSR1 fluorescence in situ hybridization testing interpretation can be challenging in the setting of cutaneous Ewing sarcoma, making an integrated histologic and sequencing approach key for an accurate diagnosis.

We examined the "othering" of Asian Americans in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Given past evidence that pathogen-related threat perceptions can exacerbate intergroup biases, as well as salient public narratives blaming the Chinese for the pandemic, we assessed whether individuals experiencing a greater sense of threat during the pandemic were more likely to apply the "perpetual foreigner" stereotype to Asian Americans. Over a seven-week period, we recruited 1,323 White Americans to complete a measure of the perceived Americanness of Asian, Black, and White targets.
