Enteric fever is caused by Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi A and B, which can present clinically with variety of symptoms. We report a case of a middle-aged gentleman with salmonella infection who developed reversible corpus callosum splenium infarcts, which is an unusual presentation of enteric fever. The condition was reversed with antibiotics routinely used to treat enteric fever in the country.

Insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS) is a rare condition triggered by exposure to various drugs containing sulfhydryl compounds, proton pump inhibitors, supplements, plasma proteins, viral infections like measles, influenza, hepatitis C, and autoimmune conditions like Graves' disease and systemic lupus erythematosus. We report two patients with recurrent episodes of hypoglycemia who were then diagnosed with IAS due to the consumption of α-lipoic acid (ALA) present in a multivitamin supplement. Eating small, frequent meals containing complex carbohydrates and steroids helps normalize blood glucose levels and reduce the insulin autoantibodies (IAA) to undetectable levels.

Uncontrolled angiogenesis underlies various pathological conditions such as cancer, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Hence, targeting pathological angiogenesis has become a promising strategy for the treatment of cancer and neovascular ocular diseases. However, current pharmacological treatments that target VEGF signaling have met with limited success either due to acquiring resistance against anti-VEGF therapies with serious side effects including nephrotoxicity and cardiovascular-related adverse effects in cancer patients or retinal vasculitis and intraocular inflammation after intravitreal injection in patients with AMD or PDR.

Defects in individual isoforms of the GalNAc-T family can lead to certain congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG). The polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 3 (GALNT)3-CDG, is caused by mutations in GALNT3, resulting in hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis due to impaired glycosylation of the phosphate-regulating hormone fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) within osteocytes of the bone.

In this paper, periodic arrays of identical-shaped gold nanostructures and variable-shaped gold nanostructures are designed on top of a gold-coated silicon dioxide (SiO) substrate with a thin spacer layer of vanadium dioxide (VO) to realize multi-wavelength and broadband plasmonic switches, respectively. The periodic array of identical-shaped nanostructures (IVNSs) with small inter-particle separation leads to coupled interactions of the elementary plasmons of a-shaped nanostructure (VNS), resulting in a hybridized plasmon response with two longitudinal plasmonic modes in the reflectance spectra of the proposed switches when the incident light is polarized in the-direction. The-direction is oriented along the axis that joins the-junctions of all VNSs in one unit cell of the periodic array.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a potent vasoconstrictor of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and is implicated in hypertension, but it's role in the regulation of endothelial function is not well known. We and others have previously shown that mechanically activated ion channel, Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) mediates flow- and/or receptor-dependent vasodilation via nitric oxide (NO) production in endothelial cells. Ang II was demonstrated to crosstalk with TRPV4 via angiotensin 1 receptor (AT1R) and β-arrestin signaling in epithelial and immortalized cells, however, the role of this crosstalk in endothelial cell function is not fully explored.
