Purpose Of Review: Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) with labral tear is an increasingly recognized source of hip pain and lost playing time in elite athletes, yet data pertaining to professional American football athletes remains scarce. Prognostic recommendations are largely limited to single-institution cohort studies. To date, no large-scale literature review of surgical treatment of FAI in elite American football athletes has been performed.

Article Synopsis
  • Spinal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SSAH) is a rare and serious condition that can lead to nerve damage, often caused by trauma, vascular issues, or other health conditions.
  • A case series features three patients: one with spontaneous cervical SSAH post-cardiac catheterization, another with thoracolumbar SSAH due to coagulopathy, and a third with SSAH from a dural arteriovenous fistula, all suffering neurologic deficits.
  • All patients underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure and remove hematomas, with most regaining some function, highlighting the critical need for quick surgical action in SSAH cases to prevent lasting damage.

Introduction: Hip fractures are common injuries that are associated with serious morbidity/mortality in the elderly and represent a substantial financial burden to healthcare systems. Previous studies demonstrated that resident involvement in orthopaedic surgeries is associated with increased surgical time and cost, with equivocal or worse outcomes. This study evaluated outcomes of hip fracture surgery at one institution, before and after the introduction of an orthopaedic residency program.

Background: The canonical Wnt inhibitor Dickkopf-1 (Dkk-1) has the capacity to modulate homeostasis between canonical and non-canonical Wnt pathways and also signal independently of Wnt. The specific effects of Dkk-1 activity on tumor physiology are therefore unpredictable with examples of Dkk-1 serving as either a driver or suppressor of malignancy. Given that Dkk-1 blockade may serve as a potential treatment for some types of cancer, we questioned whether it is possible to predict the role of Dkk-1 on tumor progression based on the tissue origin of the tumor.
