We aimed to assess the clinical utility of BD Kiestra Urine Culture App (UCA). High concordance rates were observed between the urine culture colony counts obtained by medical technologists and those produced using UCA. This application may increase the efficiency of obtaining semi-quantitative urine culture results.

On the basis of ceramide biosynthesis indicated by serine palmitoyltransferase activity and cerebroside generated by ceramide, the evaluation of serine palmitoyltransferase activity in developing brains or hypoxic-ischemic damaged brains is worthwhile.

Phenyl-type moieties were found to be effective substituents for capuramycin analogues.

As such antigenes, we developed new nuclease-resistant oligopyrimidine nucleotides that are partially modified with 2'-O,4'-C-ethylene nucleic acids (ENA), which are constrained in the C3'-endo conformation and can form a triplex with dsDNA at physiological pH. It was found that these oligonucleotides formed triplexes similarly to those partially modified with 2'-O,4'-C-methylene nucleic acids (2',4'-BNA or LNA), as determined by UV melting analyses, electromobility shift assays, CD spectral analyses and restriction enzyme inhibition assays.

Milk casein in the control AIN-93G diet (20 g/100 g) was totally or 60% replaced by the soy products, SPI, DFS or SPIM (L-Met added to be equal to that in the control diet) beginning when rats were 6 wk old. Copper and iron concentrations in SPI and DFS were measured and the concentrations of these metals in the salt mix were adjusted so that test and the control diets had the same final concentrations.

We established several cell lines from purified mouse spleen DC and Langerhans' cells (LC) by infecting them with recombinant SV40ori(-)-adenovirus. Using this method, cells from these fractions are efficiently transformed at a frequency as high as 5 x 10(-6).

Morphogenesis of bovine palatine ridges was preceded by epidermal placodes and the mesenchymal condensation (MC). During the early stages of less than 44 cm crown rump length (CRL), fibronectin (FN) was distributed densely in the MC.

Fox PGB were round, slightly-basophilic and PAS-positive structures. Most of the bodies were situated free in the neuropil.

Many foamy cells, so-called Niemann-Pick cells, were found in the non-nervous tissues, such as liver, spleen, lung, kidney, adrenal gland, lymph node and tonsil. These cells were positive for Concanavalia ensiformis agglutinin, Ricinus communis agglutinin-I and wheat germ agglutinin.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLectin histochemistry was conducted to identify sugar residues of the polyglucosan bodies (PGB) in the feline brain. PGB stained with Concanavalia ensiformis agglutinin (Con A) and peanut agglutinin, but not with soybean agglutinin, wheat germ agglutinin, Dolichos biflorus agglutinin, Ricinus communis agglutinin or Ulex europaeus agglutinin. In addition, PGB bound to Con A after periodate oxidation.

Fibronectin (FN), laminin and type I and IV collagens were distributed in the ruminal subepithelial mesenchymal regions with nonspecific regionality during the gestational periods. At stages after about 59 cm crown-rump length (CRL), FN of the epithelial basement membrane disappeared, and CA-3 appeared in the basal epithelial cells of the root of the ruminal papillae, suggesting that the functional differentiation of the ruminal epithelium might start at around 59 cm CRL in bovine fetuses.

Swollen neurons were stained with Canavalia ensiformis agglutinin (Con A). Some of them were also stained with Ricinus communis agglutinin-I (RCA-I) and Ulex europaeus agglutinin-I (UEA-I).

PGB in feline brain were also positively stained with these antibodies. These findings indicate that animal PGB share common antigenicity with human PGB.

Gravid sclerosis of the uterine artery was histologically examined in multiparous cows. This sclerosis was characterized by a thickening of the intima and a lamination of the internal elastic lamina. It was clearly observed at non-pregnant and early-pregnant stages and in the late postpartum period, but it could not be detected at term-pregnant stages and in the early postpartum period.

Immunoreactivity for S-100 was observed in various types of cells, as well as in cells of the nervous system. The endothelial cells of arterial vessels, blood capillaries, and lymph vessels; the epithelial cells of ovarian cysts; and the oocytes of normal and atretic follicles showed an S-100 protein positivity.

The present study deals with an immunohistochemical localization of S-100 protein in the bovine oviduct. The epithelium of the infundibulum, ampulla and isthmus showed a positive staining for S-100 protein. The immunoreactivity for S-100 was observed both in the ciliated and nonciliated (secretory) cells of the oviductal epithelium at any stages of the estrous cycle.
