Improving the selective and sensitive binding properties of macrocyclic hosts to target guests is always an interesting challenge. Herein, we introduce a novel "bis-clamp-cavity synergy" strategy to enhance the selectivity and binding sensitivity of pillararenes toward target guests. To achieve this goal, we designed and synthesized ,'-bis-hydroxynaphthoylhydrazone-functionalized conjugated pillar[5]arene (), in which bis-hydroxynaphthoylhydrazone plays the role of clamps, while the pillar[5]arene provides the macrocyclic cavity.

Perillae Folium (PF) is a well-known food and herb containing different chemotypes, which affect its quality. Herein, a method was proposed to classify and quantify PF chemotypes using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and Fourier transform-near infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR). GC-MS results revealed that PF contains several chemotypes, including perilla ketone (PK) type, -asarone (PP-as) type, and dillapiole (PP-dm) type, with the PK type being the predominant chemotype.

In this study, 280 batches of Zingiberis Rhizoma samples from nine producing areas were analyzed to obtain infrared spectral information based on near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS). Pluralistic chemometrics such as principal component analysis(PCA), partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLS-DA), orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA), K-nearest neighbors(KNN), support vector machine(SVM), random forest(RF), artificial neural network(ANN), and gradient boosting(GB) were applied for tracing of origins. The results showed that the discriminative accuracy of the spectral preprocessing by standard normal variate transformation coupled with the first derivative was 93.

Food authenticity regarding different varieties and geographical origins is increasingly becoming a concern for consumers. In this study, headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-GC-MS) and fast gas chromatography electronic nose (fast GC e-nose) were used to successfully distinguish the varieties and geographical origins of dried gingers from seven major production areas in China. By chemometric analysis, a distinct separation between the two varieties of ginger was achieved based on HS-GC-MS.

Dysregulation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling is responsible for the resistance to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), such as gefitinib and erlotinib, and is thereby associated with the progression of tumors in non‑small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). Immunoblotting results revealed that geranylgeranyl transferase 1 inhibitor (GGTI)‑298, a geranylgeranyl transferase 1 inhibitor with potential antitumor effects, effectively inhibited the phosphorylation of EGFR and its downstream target protein kinase B (AKT). A combination of gefitinib and GGTI‑298 amplified the inhibition of the EGFR‑AKT signaling pathway.
