A 9-year-old African American boy presented with chronic urticaria and progressive spondyloarthritis. Laboratory tests were abnormal for persistently positive antinuclear antibodies and undetectable total hemolytic complement (CH50) despite normal levels of complement C2, C3, and C4. Ultimately, further testing revealed an underlying deficiency in the immune system that may be associated with autoimmune disease and thus have a bearing on the patient's urticaria and spondyloarthritis.

Adult and pediatric clinical trials of sublingual immunotherapy in the USA.

Specific allergen immunotherapy has been practiced for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis for over 100 years and is the only treatment option that is disease modifying. In the USA, immunotherapy is usually administered via subcutaneous injection; this is the only route with a US FDA-approved formulation. There is growing interest in developing US-standardized formulations for the sublingual route, but up until recently there have been few US trials.

Cationic solid lipid nanoparticles for co-delivery of paclitaxel and siRNA.

In this study, we formulated cationic solid lipid nanoparticles (cSLN) for co-delivery of paclitaxel (PTX) and siRNA. 1,2-Dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-ethylphosphocholine-based cSLN were prepared by emulsification solidification methods. PTX-loaded cSLN (PcSLN) were characterized by zeta potential and gel retardation of complexes with small interfering RNA (siRNA).

Highly efficient [2 + 2] intramolecular cyclizations of allenynes under microwave irradiation: construction of fused bicyclic compounds.

A palladium [2 + 2] cycloaddition of 1,6- and 1,7-allenyne carboxylates and microwave-mediated [2 + 2] cycloaddition of various 1,n-allenynes were developed and, particularly, the microwave irradiated [2 + 2] cycloaddition of allenynes can provide a simple, general and eco-friendly synthetic method to fused bicyclo[m,2,0]alkadienes.

Decarbopalladation of pi-allylpalladium intermediates formed from palladium-catalyzed arylations of 3-allen-1-ols.

[reaction: see text] Unusual palladium-catalyzed arylative fragmentations of acyclic 3-allen-1-ols were observed. Oxidative addition of Pd(0) to aryl halides would form the arylpalladium halides, which added to the central carbon of allenes via carbopalladation to form the pi-allylpalladium intermediates. The pi-allylpalladium intermediates would be reductively eliminated via carbon-carbon cleavage to give the arylated dienes and the alpha-hydroxyalkylpalladium intermediates, which were further reductively eliminated to the corresponding aldehydes.

uvi15+ is induced by various stresses including exposure to UV-light. Previously, we demonstrated that the UV-induction is mainly regulated at the post-transcriptional level through a cis-acting element in the pre-mRNA. Here we show that deletion analyses define an 18-nt element responsible for the UV-induction.
