Background: Fatigue is one of the most common neurological symptoms reported post coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. In order to establish effective early intervention strategies, more emphasis should be placed on the correlation between fatigue and cortical neurophysiological changes, especially in healthcare workers, who are at a heightened risk of COVID-19 infection.
Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted involving 29 COVID-19 medical workers and 24 healthy controls.
Background: The anti-inflammatory effects of budesonide (BUN) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) attenuate acute lung injury (ALI). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of combination therapy consisting of BUN and NAC on ALI and the underlying mechanisms.
Methods: In vitro and in vivo models of ALI were generated by LPS induction.

Introduction: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) are the most prevalent metabolic disorders globally. The numbers affected in both disorders are also rapidly increasing with alarming trends in children and young adults.
Areas Covered: Insulin resistance (IR) and the subsequent metabolic dysregulation are the fundamental pathogenesis pathways of the prevalent metabolic disorders.
Background And Aim: Fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) is an intestinal-derived factor that plays a role in metabolic diseases. We performed a differential study of circulating FGF19 levels and investigated the causal effects of FGF19 on metabolic diseases using Mendelian randomization (MR).
Methods: Firstly, 958 subjects were included in the physical examination center of affiliated hospital from January 2019 to January 2021.
Coherent polarization control of terahertz (THz) emission is crucial for applications in the THz field. Here, we demonstrate that the polarization of THz waves emitted from graphene through quantum interference can be coherently controlled by varying the relative phase between the co-circularly polarized laser fields. The polarization state of the THz wave emitted from graphene remains linearly polarized, while its direction can be arbitrarily changed by varying the relative phase.

While MI computations for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel are well-established, they fall short when dealing with the challenges posed by nonlinear optical fiber channels due to an unknown channel model. For the first time, to our knowledge, this Letter introduces a mutual information neural estimator (MINE) for MI estimation in optical fiber communications.

Psoriasis is a common inflammatory skin disease featured by excessive proliferation of keratinocytes. Although we have previously reported that topically inhibiting TOPK suppressed psoriatic manifestations in psoriasis-like model mice, the exact role of TOPK in psoriatic inflammation and the underlying mechanism remains elusive.

In this work, through modulating oxygen octahedra distortion and short-range polar nanodomains with moderate coupling strength, an EC value of Δ ∼ 0.30 K with an ultrawide temperature span of 85 K is obtained in the = 0.

This study integrates machine learning techniques to develop a novel mitophagy-related long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) signature for predicting the progression of prostate cancer. Leveraging the TCGA-PRAD dataset, we identify a set of four key lncRNAs and formulate a riskscore, revealing its potential as a prognostic indicator.

Metabolic alterations in CHC are associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). We aimed to elucidate whether hepatitis C virus (HCV) eradication mitigates MASLD occurrence or resolution.

Neurotoxicity is a potential adverse event associated with colistin application in clinical settings, yet the exact molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study examined the detrimental impact of colistin exposure on PC12 cells and the associated molecular mechanisms.

With () and () being the main pathogens linked to CAP that requires hospitalization, there is an urgent need for a straightforward, cost-efficient, and highly accurate diagnostic method for immediate and early detection of CAP. In this work, benzo[1,2-;4,5-']bis([1,2,5]thiadiazole) (BBT) as π-bridge spacer with the donor unit of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PF) and the acceptor unit of dithienylbenzoselenadiazole (DBS) has been successfully copolymerized to unprecedentedly prepare novel D-π-A selenium-based polymer dots with efficient NIR electrochemiluminescence (named as Se-Pdots in this work).

However, the underlying mechanism of its action remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the impact of fulvic acid application with varying concentrations (0, 40, 60, 80 and 120 mg/L) on rice performance in plants grown in a hydroponic system subjected to low phosphorus stress.

Guided bone self-generation with periosteum-preserved has great potential for reconstructing large bone defects.
Methods: A swine model of guided bone regeneration with occlusive periosteum was established, the rib segment was removed, and the periosteum was sutured to form a closed regeneration chamber.

Implant-associated infections present a significant clinical obstacle for orthopedic practitioners, with bacterial biofilm formation serving as a pivotal factor in the initiation, progression, and management of such infections. Conventional approaches have proven inadequate in fully eradicating biofilm-related infections. Consequently, novel material-based therapeutic strategies have been developed, encompassing the utilization of antimicrobial agents, delivery vehicles, and synergistic antibacterial systems.

Given the high degree of variability and complexity of cancer, precise monitoring and logical analysis of different nucleic acid markers are crucial for improving diagnostic precision and patient survival rates. However, existing molecular diagnostic methods normally suffer from high cost, cumbersome procedures, dependence on specialized equipment and the requirement of in-depth expertise in data analysis, failing to analyze multiple cancer-associated nucleic acid markers and provide immediate results in a point-of-care manner. Herein, we demonstrate a transistor-based DNA molecular computing (TDMC) platform that enables simultaneous detection and logical analysis of multiple microRNA (miRNA) markers on a single transistor.

Background And Aim: Among low viral load (DNA of hepatitis B virus (HBV) was < 2000 IU/mL), the factor of the loss of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) remained elusive.
Methods: The retrospective study recruited patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) who were negative low for hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg), had a low viral load, and experienced HBsAg loss during follow-up. CHB patients with low-viral load but without consequent HBsAg loss were also enrolled at the ratio of 1:4.
Low-coverage whole genome sequencing was performed for tissue samples from thyroid patients who received surgery treatment from 2015 to 2021. The potential biological significance of CD147 protein in thyroid cancer was explored through correlation analysis of CD147 protein expression level and clinical features of thyroid cancer patients. Low coverage whole genome sequencing was performed on the extracted DNA samples.
