Background: The global discourse on future health care emphasises that learning to collaborate across professions is crucial to assure patient safety and meet the changing demands of health care. The research on interprofessional education (IPE) is diverse but with gaps in curricula design and how IPE is enacted in practice.

Purpose And Aims: This research project will identify.

Advances in spatial proteomics and protein colocalization are a driving force in the understanding of cellular mechanisms and their influence on biological processes. New methods in the field of spatial proteomics call for the development of algorithms and open up new avenues of research. The newly introduced Molecular Pixelation (MPX) provides spatial information on surface proteins and their relationship with each other in single cells.

Objective: The European Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (EU-TIRADS) allows for selective fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). In 2017, EU-TIRADS was implemented as part of a nationwide standardized care bundle for thyroid cancer in Western Sweden with a population of approximately 1.7 million.

This is the first national guideline in hyperthyroidism to harmonise and update clinical practice according to what is evidence based and direct care from patients' needs. We present 4 articles in Läkartidningen of different views of the guideline, including family care perspectives, patient care perspectives and perspectives on ophthalmology. This article concerns treatment of Graves' disease and includes endocrinological, surgical and oncological perspectives on what is established practice, but also news in the national guideline that remain to be fully implemented in Sweden in the years to come.

The spatial distribution of cell surface proteins governs vital processes of the immune system such as intercellular communication and mobility. However, fluorescence microscopy has limited scalability in the multiplexing and throughput needed to drive spatial proteomics discoveries at subcellular level. We present Molecular Pixelation (MPX), an optics-free, DNA sequence-based method for spatial proteomics of single cells using antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates (AOCs) and DNA-based, nanometer-sized molecular pixels.

Anaplastic and poorly differentiated thyroid cancer (ATC, PDTC) are rare and highly aggressive tumors that historically have been associated with a short life expectancy and low chance of cure. Molecular pathology and the introduction of highly effective targeted drugs have revolutionized the possibilities of management of patients with ATC and PDTC, with BRAF and MEK inhibitors as the most prominent example. Here we provide updated recommendations regarding diagnostics and management, including primary surgical management and targeted therapies based on specific molecular pathological findings.

Modified messenger RNA (mRNA) represents a rapidly emerging class of therapeutic drug product. Development of robust stability indicating methods for control of product quality are therefore critical to support successful pharmaceutical development. This paper presents an ion-pair reversed-phase liquid chromatography (IP-RPLC) method to characterise modified mRNA exposed to a wide set of stress-inducing conditions, relevant for pharmaceutical development of an mRNA drug product.

Purpose: To describe and analyse experiences of living with lipedema. Methods: Individual, semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of 12 women diagnosed with lipedema and analysed by qualitative content analysis utilizing an inductive approach.

Results: The overarching theme, "An uncertain uphill battle against a divergent body and societal ignorance", covers the experiences of living with lipedema and is based on five categories; "Captivated by a disintegrating body", "Face the impairments of a chronic condition", "Experience social exclusion", "Need emotional support to go on" and "Mull over an insecure future".

Climate change is globally affecting rainfall patterns, necessitating the improvement of drought tolerance in crops. is a relatively drought-tolerant cereal. Functional stay-green sorghum genotypes can maintain green leaf area and efficient grain filling during terminal post-flowering water deprivation, a period of ~10 weeks.

Receiving the same results from repeated analysis of the same sample is a basic principle in science. The inability to reproduce previously published results has led to discussions of a reproducibility crisis within science. For studies of microbial communities, the problem of reproducibility is more pronounced and has, in some fields, led to a discussion on the very existence of a constantly present microbiota.

Background: Techniques for autofluorescence have been introduced to visualize the parathyroid glands during surgery and to reduce hypoparathyroidism after thyroidectomy.

Methods: This parallel multicentre RCT investigated the use of Fluobeam® LX to visualize the parathyroid glands by autofluorescence during total thyroidectomy compared with no use. There was no restriction on the indication for surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights the lack of reliable data on sepsis epidemiology, emphasizing that existing methods using ICD codes may miss many cases due to low sensitivity and inability to track pathogens or antimicrobial resistance.
  • The researchers aimed to improve epidemiological estimates by linking a population-based database with detailed clinical medical record reviews from Sweden.
  • Their findings revealed a sepsis incidence of 4.1% among hospitalized patients in 2019, and they noted significant demographic details about the patients, such as age, gender, and comorbidities.

Changes in the milk microbiota during the course of mastitis are due to the nature of a sporadic occurring disease difficult to study. In this study we experimentally induced mastitis by infusion of Escherichia coli endotoxins in one udder quarter each of nine healthy lactating dairy cows and assessed the bacteriological dynamics and the milk microbiota at four time points before and eight time points after infusion. As control, saline was infused in one udder quarter each of additionally nine healthy cows that followed the same sampling protocol.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare readmissions and death between sepsis and non-sepsis hospitalisations the first year after discharge, and to investigate what diagnoses patients with sepsis present with at readmission. The aim was also to evaluate to what degree patients hospitalised for sepsis seek medical attention prior to hospitalisation.

Design: Retrospective case-control study with data validated through clinical chart review.

Plant response to drought stress involves fungi and bacteria that live on and in plants and in the rhizosphere, yet the stability of these myco- and micro-biomes remains poorly understood. We investigate the resistance and resilience of fungi and bacteria to drought in an agricultural system using both community composition and microbial associations. Here we show that tests of the fundamental hypotheses that fungi, as compared to bacteria, are (i) more resistant to drought stress but (ii) less resilient when rewetting relieves the stress, found robust support at the level of community composition.

The shifts in adaptive strategies revealed by ecological succession and the mechanisms that facilitate these shifts are fundamental to ecology. These adaptive strategies could be particularly important in communities of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) mutualistic with sorghum, where strong AMF succession replaces initially ruderal species with competitive ones and where the strongest plant response to drought is to manage these AMF. Although most studies of agriculturally important fungi focus on parasites, the mutualistic symbionts, AMF, constitute a research system of human-associated fungi whose relative simplicity and synchrony are conducive to experimental ecology.

This paper explores how undergraduate students understood the social relevance of their engineering course content knowledge and drew (or failed to draw) broader social and ethical implications from that knowledge. Based on a three-year qualitative study in a junior-level engineering class, we found that students had difficulty in acknowledging the social and ethical aspects of engineering as relevant topics in their coursework. Many students considered the immediate technical usability or improved efficiency of technical innovations as the noteworthy social and ethical implications of engineering.

Background: It is unclear whether the increasing incidence of thyroid cancer (TC) due to increased diagnosis of small and indolent tumours might mask a real increase of clinically significant cancers. The aim of this study was to correlate surgery, pathology and outcome data of individual patients to the mode of primary detection (palpation, by imaging or incidental) to assess if TC incidence has increased.

Methods: The Swedish Cancer Registry identified all patients with TC in Västra Götaland County representing approximately 1.
