Background:  Femoral neck fractures in elderly individuals cause significant morbidity, and their management is particularly challenging in rural areas where healthcare access is limited. The recommended treatment for displaced femoral neck fractures in elderly patients with poor mobility, cognitive dysfunction and multiple comorbidities is a hemiarthroplasty, which can be performed with various implants, including monopolar implants like Austin Moore prosthesis (AMP) and bipolar prosthesis (BP). In developing countries like India, rural areas often have constraints with healthcare resources.

Treatment Outcomes of Dynamic Hip Screws Versus Short Intramedullary Nails for Extra-capsular Fragility Hip Fractures and Their Coding Audit.

Introduction In the UK, hip fractures are a common reason for presentations to the emergency departments, which places significant pressure on NHS hospitals, appropriate choice of an implant to treat the hip fracture is one among many other factors that affect patients' outcomes. This audit aims to identify and compare the outcome difference between the dynamic hip screws (DHS) and short cephalomedullary nails in the treatment of extracapsular hip fractures. Methods In a retrospective study of 52 patients admitted as a result of hip fractures in one NHS trust, data collection was done from the patients' records using the trust's online system, we studied different variables to compare the outcome difference between DHS and short intramedullary (IM) nails, two senior authors interpreted the patients' X-rays and verified the coding and classification of the neck of femur fractures.

This study aimed to translate and test the psychometric properties of the Nepali version of the PBQ (PBQ-N) among postpartum mothers in Kathmandu, Nepal. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with postpartum mothers (n = 128) of an infant aged one to six months visiting immunization clinics at two selected hospitals in Kathmandu, Nepal. The PBQ scale was translated into Nepali language and backtranslated to English with the help of language and content experts.

Here, we examined how hormone misexpression was influenced by the MAFA and MAFB transcription factors, closely related proteins that maintain islet cell function. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess a new device designed to safely remove cerumen from the external auditory canal in an office setting with minimal training.

Methods: The research was conducted in the Department of Otolaryngology at Kaplan Medical Center in Israel. Patients with cerumen were treated with the device.

β-Cell DNA Damage Response Promotes Islet Inflammation in Type 1 Diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease where pancreatic β-cells are destroyed by islet-infiltrating T cells. Although a role for β-cell defects has been suspected, β-cell abnormalities are difficult to demonstrate. We show a β-cell DNA damage response (DDR), presented by activation of the 53BP1 protein and accumulation of p53, in biopsy and autopsy material from patients with recently diagnosed T1D as well as a rat model of human T1D.

PAX6 maintains β cell identity by repressing genes of alternative islet cell types.

Type 2 diabetes is thought to involve a compromised β cell differentiation state, but the mechanisms underlying this dysfunction remain unclear. Here, we report a key role for the TF PAX6 in the maintenance of adult β cell identity and function. PAX6 was downregulated in β cells of diabetic db/db mice and in WT mice treated with an insulin receptor antagonist, revealing metabolic control of expression.

β-Cell failure in type 2 diabetes (T2D) was recently proposed to involve dedifferentiation of β-cells and ectopic expression of other islet hormones, including somatostatin and glucagon. Here we show that gastrin, a stomach hormone typically expressed in the pancreas only during embryogenesis, is expressed in islets of diabetic rodents and humans with T2D. Although gastrin in mice is expressed in insulin cells, gastrin expression in humans with T2D occurs in both insulin and somatostatin cells.
