Introduction: FOLFOX chemotherapy (CTx) is used for the treatment of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). Side effects include rare cardiotoxicity, which may limit the application of FOLFOX. Currently, there is no effective strategy to prevent FOLFOX-induced cardiotoxicity.

Bile acids and activation of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) can inhibit autophagy, a cellular self-digestion process necessary for cellular homeostasis and regeneration. In mice, autophagy appears to be impaired in cholestasis and induction of autophagy may reduce liver injury.

To provide physiologically more representative exposure conditions and increase the differentiation state, respiratory cells, for instance Calu-3 bronchial epithelial cells, are cultured at an air-liquid interface (ALI). There are indications that A549 cells also change their phenotype upon culture in ALI.

Endothelial lipase (EL) is a strong determinant of structural and functional properties of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). We examined whether the antioxidative capacity of HDL is affected by EL. EL-modified HDL (EL-HDL) and control EV-HDL were generated by incubation of HDL with EL- overexpressing or control HepG2 cells.

Treatment opportunities have been restricted until now and new therapy options are urgently required. Our focus was to reveal the potential heterogeneity of melanoma brain metastasis.

Methods: NB cells (MHH-NB11) were implanted into athymic mice (n=20); 20 healthy mice served as controls (sham). CTX was given to 20 animals (10 NB and 10 sham) after 8 and 9 weeks.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare disease characterized by increased pulmonary pressure and vascular remodelling as a consequence of smooth muscle cell proliferation, endothelial cell dysfunction and inflammatory infiltrates. Meprin α is a metalloproteinase whose substrates include adhesion and cell-cell contact molecules involved in the process of immune cell extravasation. In this study, we aimed to unravel the role of meprin α in PAH-induced vascular remodelling.

Here transcriptome and pathway analyses during differentiation and fusion of cultured trophoblasts yielded p53 signaling as negative upstream regulator and indicated an upregulation of autophagy-related genes. We further showed p53 mRNA and protein levels decreased during trophoblast differentiation.

Until now little is known about the major protein forming these structured fibrous cell surface appendages, the genes involved or membrane anchoring of these filaments. These aspects were analyzed in depth in this study using environmental transcriptomics combined with imaging methods.
