Autophagy plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Oxidative stress and neuroinflammation involved in autophagy are associated with the cerebral ischemia-induced exacerbation of cognitive deficits in individuals with AD. APP/PS1 mice underwent bilateral common carotid artery clamping for 15 min.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study using a mouse model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) observed changes in neurological function and brain damage due to ischemia-reperfusion injury, with significant alterations in autophagy-related proteins over time.
  • * The findings showed that specific proteins related to autophagy and inflammation had varied expression levels at different time points after the stroke, highlighting a dynamic response in AR mice that could inform future research on treatment strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) can cause inflammation in the body, but how this affects patients is not fully understood.
  • In a study with 55 ICH patients and 20 healthy people, scientists looked at 92 proteins related to inflammation to see how they relate to stroke severity and patient outcomes.
  • They found six proteins increased and 74 decreased in ICH patients, which might help predict how severe the stroke is and how well patients do afterward.

This study aimed to explore the mechanism of Zhongfeng Xingnao Decoction(ZFXN) in intervening microcirculatory di-sorders in cerebral hemorrhage by network pharmacology and molecular docking techniques. The information on the components of ZFXN was obtained through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform(TCMSP) database, and the predicted targets of chemical components were obtained from PubChem and SwissTargetPrediction. The relevant targets of cerebral hemorrhage and microcirculatory disorders were collected from the GeneCards database, and the common targets of the components and diseases were analyzed by the Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery(DAVID) for Gene Ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) enrichment analyses.

Background: Vascular dementia (VD) is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease. β-asarone, a major component of Acorus tatarinowii Schott, is important in neurodegenerative and neurovascular diseases. Studies have confirmed that β-asarone can mitigate autophagy and reduce damage in hypoxic cells.
