Supporting and Enabling the Process of Innovation in Public Health: The Framework for Public Health Innovation.

This manuscript introduces a new framework for creating innovations in public health-the Framework for Public Health Innovation. The framework was developed through a longitudinal qualitative research study that investigated the process of creating innovative adolescent health programs. Interviews were conducted with a national sample of 26 organizations over two time points.

Modeling the impact of a health coaching intervention to prevent teen pregnancy.

Teenage pregnancy is an important public health issue in the United States, presenting significant health and economic risks to adolescents and the society. Health coaching is a potentially effective intervention in preventing teen pregnancy. In 2017, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia implemented a health coaching program among sexually active teenage girls, which improved their contraceptive continuation rates.

Children's Health Insurance Status and Emergency Room Utilization: An Examination of Complex Survey Data.

Since the Children's Health Insurance Program's passage into law in 1997, the program has increased in cost to over $15 billion in recent years. Emergency room usage has also increased throughout the United States, leading to nationwide issues in overcrowding and surges in service costs. This study seeks to examine emergency room utilization of children insured under Children's Health Insurance Program to determine if Children's Health Insurance Program enrollees use the emergency room more or less frequently than their privately insured counterparts.

Interorganizational network findings from a nationwide cardiovascular disease prevention initiative.

Objectives: To use network analysis in order to evaluate the effectiveness of interorganizational networks in implementing policy, systems, and environmental interventions for cardiovascular disease prevention throughout the United States.

Methods: Evaluators conducted an interorganizational network (ION) survey to examine information sharing and joint planning within organizational relationships in 15 community-based cardiovascular disease prevention partnership networks. Density and betweenness centrality scores at the node- and network-level were calculated for each partnership network using UCINET© network analysis software.

Use of Emergency Departments for Preventative Care Among Adults in the United States: Estimates From the 2017 National Health Interview Survey.

Background: Use of the emergency department (ED) for routine or preventative care has been an abiding concern for policy makers and public health practitioners.

Objectives: We utilized recent data to examine health-related, socioeconomic, and demographic factors associated with use of the ED for routine or preventative care using a national sample of adults.

Methods: Data from the 2017 National Health Interview Survey, a nationally representative sample of 26,742 adults ≥18 years of age was used for this investigation.

Understanding innovation in health program planning and development.

Introduction: A need for innovative public health programs is evident as the field adapts to address changes in health priorities and target populations. The Innovative Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (iTP) was created to support and enable innovation in teenage pregnancy prevention, developing programs to reach the most at risk youth.

Methods: A formative evaluation was conducted to understand what innovation means in the context of program development, and examine the process of innovation.

Ecological Approaches to Teen Pregnancy Prevention: An Examination of Evidence-Based Interventions.

Over the past 20 years, teenage birth rates in the United States have declined substantially but continue to persist among certain populations. During this time period, a series of rigorously tested teen pregnancy prevention (TPP) programs were developed, and a number of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) emerged. In April 2017, researchers reviewed EBIs in TPP and examined each program's socioecological levels of intervention, measurements approaches, and other ecological aspects.
