Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) brings symptom relief and improvement in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in the majority of patients treated for symptomatic, severe aortic stenosis. However, there is a substantial group of patients that do not benefit from TAVI. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of frailty on HRQoL 1 year after TAVI.

This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical applicability of measuring drug concentrations of 8 antihypertensive drugs, using DBS and venipuncture. Furthermore, this study aimed to provide more insight into the between-patient variability in drug concentrations.

Despite diverse societal measures to reduce transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, such as implementing social distancing, quarantine, curfews and total lockdowns, its control remains challenging.

Both modalities expose patients to ionizing radiation that should ideally be avoided, especially in pediatric patients. In an effort to diminish this exposure, three-dimensional (3D) optical surface imaging has recently been proposed as an alternative method.

Procedural cost and time, the need for coronary vessel instrumentation, and the need to administer adenosine to achieve maximal hyperemia remain integral components of invasive fractional flow reserve. The number of new alternatives to fractional flow reserve has proliferated over the last ten years using techniques ranging from alternative pressure wire metrics to anatomic simulation via angiography or intravascular imaging.

This is a retrospective single-centre study including patients with STEMI and MVD. Based on the revascularization strategy, 3 groups were identified: (1) culprit only (CO), (2) ad hoc multivessel revascularization (MVR), and (3) staged MVR.

Methods: All RFFs and SMFs performed by vascular surgeons in a regional collaboration in The Southern Netherlands were retrospectively reviewed. Primary outcomes were muscle flap survival, overall and secondary graft salvage, and limb salvage.

To quantify the impact of cardiac motion on stent length measurements with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and to demonstrate in vivo OCT imaging of implanted stents, without motion artefacts. The study consists of: clinical data evaluation, simulations and in vivo tests. A comparison between OCT-measured and nominal stent lengths in 101 clinically acquired pullbacks was carried out, followed by a simulation of the effect of cardiac motion on stent length measurements, experimentally and computationally.

Methods: Prospective blinded randomised controlled multicentre trial (RCT), performed in four hospitals in The Netherlands and Belgium. This study included 288 patients who underwent an inguinal incision for primary arterial repair (femoral endarterectomy, femorofemoral or femoropopliteal bypass, aortobifemoral bypass, thrombectomy, embolectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair) between October 2012 and December 2015.
Background: delirium is an event leading to negative health outcomes and increased mortality in patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the incidence, determinants and consequences of post-operative delirium (POD) in older patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Methods: The TAVI Care and Cure program is a prospective, observational registry in patients referred for TAVI at Erasmus University Medical Centre.
Aims: We assessed morphological features of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)-detected lipid-rich plaques (LRPs) by using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS).
Methods And Results: IVUS-NIRS and OCT were performed in the two non-infarct-related arteries (non-IRAs) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for treatment of an acute coronary syndrome. A lesion was defined as the 4 mm segment with the maximum amount of lipid core burden index (maxLCBI4mm) of each LRP detected by NIRS.
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is typically performed with image guidance using X-ray angiograms in which coronary arteries are opacified with X-ray opaque contrast agents. Interventional cardiologists typically navigate instruments using non-contrast-enhanced fluoroscopic images, since higher use of contrast agents increases the risk of kidney failure. When using fluoroscopic images, the interventional cardiologist needs to rely on a mental anatomical reconstruction.

The aim of the study is to provide data on the application of simulation-based training in MIMVS using an air-pilot training concept.
Methods: The 2-day EACTS endoscopic mitral training course design was based on backwards chaining, pre- and post-assessment, performance feedback, hands-on training on MIMVS, theoretical content and follow-up.
Aims: Bioresorbable scaffold (BRS) regions exposed to flow recirculation, low time-averaged wall shear stress (TAWSS) and high oscillatory shear index (OSI) develop increased neointima tissue. We investigated haemodynamic features in four different BRSs.
Methods And Results: Fantom (strut height [SH] = 125 µm), Fantom Encore (SH = 98 µm), Absorb (SH = 157 µm) and Magmaris (SH = 150 µm) BRSs were deployed in phantom tubes and imaged with microCT.
Background: In aortic stenosis, valvulo-arterial impedance (Zva) estimates the overall left ventricular afterload (valve and arterial component). We investigated the association of Zva (≥5 versus <5 mm Hg mL m) on quality of life (QOL) and exercise performance (EP) ≥1 year after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
Methods: The study population consists of 250 TAVR patients in whom baseline Zva and follow-up QOL was prospectively assessed using EuroQOL-5-dimensions instruments; EP was assessed in 192 patients who survived ≥1 year after TAVR using questionnaires related to daily activities.
Hypertension is a major risk factor for ischaemic heart disease and stroke. Despite the availability of numerous pharmacological treatment options, blood pressure (BP) targets are often not achieved. The inability to reach BP levels below 140/90 mmHg despite the use of three or more antihypertensive drugs is defined as resistant hypertension (RH).

Available plaque-modifying devices rely on tissue compression or debulking, with the intention of fracturing calcium and facilitating optimal stent deployment. In contrast, coronary intravascular lithotripsy delivers unfocused, circumferential, pulsatile mechanical energy to safely disrupt the calcium within the target lesion.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute withdrawal of calcium channel blockers can lead to the so-called calcium channel blocker withdrawal phenomenon, in particular, when high dosages are used. In the case presented, inadequate drug substitution led to this phenomenon which resulted in a serious course of events. Careful monitoring the process of drug substitution with respect to equal therapeutic dosages is therefore a necessity, especially in vulnerable patients.

Current plaquemodification techniques might not be suitable when calcium deposition is circumferential and deep inside the vessel wall. We report a case during which coronary lithoplasty was used as an adjuvant therapy to improve severe stent underexpansion after failed atherectomy and high-pressure non-compliant balloon dilatations.
