According to the Critical Period Hypothesis, successful language learning is optimal during early childhood, whereas language learning outside of this time window is unsuccessful. In this respect, early language acquisition is viewed as convergent and reliable but late acquisition is not. Purpose Of Review: The goal of this article is to characterize the endothelium's role in the development of hypertension and dyslipidemia and to point out promising therapeutic directions.

Recent Findings: Dyslipidemia may facilitate the development of hypertension, whereas the collaboration of these two silent killers potentiates the risk of atherosclerosis. The common pathophysiological denominator for hypertension and dyslipidemia is endothelial cell dysfunction, which manifests as dysregulation of homeostasis, redox balance, vascular tone, inflammation, and thrombosis.

While late second language (L2) learning is assumed to be largely explicit, there is evidence that adults are able to acquire grammar under incidental exposure conditions, and that the acquisition of this knowledge may be implicit in nature. Here, we revisit the question of whether adults can learn grammar incidentally and investigate whether word order and morphology are susceptible to incidental learning to the same degree. Using a nonce-word inflection task, we examine the morphosyntactic productivity of adult native speakers of Spanish who are either beginning to learn to read and write (semi-literates) or have acquired literacy in late adulthood (late-literates), as well as age-matched controls (high-literates). High-literates consistently provided the appropriate form more often than late-literates, who in turn were better than semi-literate participants. Crucially, group interacted with person, number, and conjugation, such that the between-group differences were larger for the less frequent cells in the paradigm, indicating that literacy-related differences are not merely a consequence of the high-literacy group being more engaged or test-wise.

The dysfunctional effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection on the nervous system are established. The manifestation of neuropsychiatric symptoms during and after infection is influenced by the neuroinvasive and neurotrophic properties of SARS-CoV-2 as well as strong inflammation characterised by a specific "cytokine storm". Purpose: Assessment and monitoring of changes in microcirculatory perfusion, perfusion dynamic, vessel structure and oxygenation is crucial in management of arterial hypertension. Constant search for non-invasive methods has led the clinical focus towards the vasculature of the retina, which offers a large opportunity to detect the early phase of the functional and structural changes in the arterial hypertension and can reflect changes in brain vasculature. We review all the available methods of retinal microcirculation measurements including angiography, oximetry, retinal vasculature assessment software, Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography, Adaptive Optics and Scanning Laser Doppler Flowmetry and their application in clinical research.
