The photolysis of disulfide bonds is implicated in denaturation of proteins exposed to ultraviolet light. Despite this biological relevance in stabilizing the structure of many proteins, the mechanisms of disulfide photolysis are still contested after decades of research. Herein, we report new insight into the photochemistry of L-cystine in aqueous solution by femtosecond X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the sulfur K-edge.

Biodistribution is crucial for EVs intended for therapeutic purposes because it can determine the degree of on- and off-target effects. This study aimed to explore techniques to evaluate the biodistribution of unmodified EVs.

Here, we show that Fc-fused IL-7 (rhIL-7-hyFc) changes the intratumoral CD8 T cell landscape, enhancing the efficacy of TCE immunotherapy. rhIL-7-hyFc induces a dramatic increase in CD8 tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in various solid tumors, but the majority of these cells are PD-1-negative tumor non-responsive bystander T cells.

This study aims to characterize the metabolic changes occurring in exosomes obtained from patients with gallbladder cancer compared with those from other gallbladder disease groups.
Methods: Biliary exosomes were isolated from healthy donors (n = 3) and from patients with gallbladder cancer (n = 3), gallbladder polyps (n = 4), or cholecystitis (n = 3) using a validated exosome isolation kit.
Background: The treatment of transversal maxillary deficiency usually aims at skeletal expansion. The treatment option highly depends on the maturation stage of the midpalatal suture (MPS), which may vary between individuals at the same chronological age. Therefore, the individual determination of the MPS maturation is crucial.

According to recent research, autophagy regulates tumor growth during various stages of cancer development. This study examined the association between CHI3L1 and autophagy in human lung cancer cells.

Here, a template-based synthesis strategy is proposed for the synthesis of high-density NiN sites anchored on the surface of hierarchically porous nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (Ni-HPNCFs) with different coordination environments. First-principles calculations and advanced characterization techniques demonstrate that the single Ni atom is strongly coordinated with both pyrrolic and pyridinic N dopants, and that the predominant sites are stabilized by NiN sites.

This was a single-center retrospective study including 869 women who delivered between December 2017 and May 2019. We collected total cholesterol levels, both at 24-28 GWs and 1 month before delivery.

However, conventional karyotyping is insufficient for evaluating diploid fetuses with uniparental disomy (UPD) due to trisomy rescue. Using the diagnostic process for Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), we aim to describe the need for additional prenatal diagnostic testing for confirming UPD in fetuses diagnosed with RATs via NIPT and its clinical implications.

In this present study, we investigated whether a CHI3L1-inhibiting natural compound, ebractenoid F, inhibits lung cancer cell growth and migration and induces apoptosis. Ebractenoid F concentration-dependently (0, 17, 35, 70 µM) and significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of A549 and H460 lung cancer cells and induced apoptosis.

Several studies have reported that isolated and purified bee venom components are effective in treating dementia, arthritis, inflammation, bacterial infections, and cancer. In previous studies, we reported that bee venom inhibits cell growth and induces apoptotic cell death in lung cancer cells.

This study aimed to investigate if PAUF elicits autocrine effects on pancreatic cancer (PC) cells through TLR4, a receptor that is overexpressed on PC cells. In this study, TLR4 expression was detected in PC cells only, but not normal pancreatic cells.

Direct energy deposition (DED) technology has gained increasing attention as a new implant surface technology that replicates the porous structure of natural bones facilitating osteoblast colonization and bone ingrowth. However, concerns have arisen over osteolysis or chronic inflammation that could be caused by Cobalt-chrome (CoCr) alloy and Titanium (Ti) nanoparticles produced during the fabrication process. Here, we evaluated whether a DED Ti-coated on CoCr alloy could improve osteoblast colonization and osseointegration in vitro and in vivo without causing any significant side effects.

Newly developed 3D printing direct energy deposition (DED) has superior resistance to abrasion as compared to traditional methods. However, there is still concern about the mechanical stability and the risk of osteolysis by the titanium (Ti) nanoparticles.
