Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of double-tract reconstruction on short-term clinical outcome, quality of life and nutritional status of patients after proximal gastrectomy by comparing with esophagogastrostomy and total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y reconstruction.

Methods: The clinical data of patients who underwent double tract reconstruction (DTR), esophagogastrostomy (EG), total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y reconstruction (TG-RY) were retrospectively collected from May 2020 to May 2022. The clinical characteristics, short-term surgical outcomes, postoperative quality of life and nutritional status were compared among the three groups.

Based on the one strain many compounds strategy, a new brominated isocoumarin, 5-bromo-6,8-dihydroxy-3,7-dimethylisocoumarin (1), along with four new natural products, methyl 3-bromo-2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoate (2), methyl 2-bromo-4,6-dihydroxybenzoate (3), (E)-3-(3-bromo-4-hydroxyphenyl) acrylic acid (4) and 4-hydroxy-3-methyl-6-phenyl-2H-pyran-2-one (5), and four known compounds, methyl orsellinate (6), 4-hydroxy-3-methyl-6-(1-methyl-1-propenyl)-2H-pyran-2-one (7), pilobolusate (8) and cis-ferulic acid (9), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the fungus Aspergillus sp. WXF1904 under the condition of adding bromine salt to the production medium. The structures of the new compounds were established by analysis of NMR and MS data.

Background: Operation is the primary therapeutic option for patients with distal gastrectomy. Braun anastomosis is usually performed after Billroth II reconstruction, which is wildly applied on distal gastrectomy because it is believed to benefit patients. However, studies are needed to confirm that.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed complete genome sequences of SARS-CoV-2 collected from 177 COVID-19 patients at a hospital in Guangzhou, focusing on the diversity and mutation characteristics of the virus between October 2020 and May 2021.
  • - Key findings indicated a peak in imported COVID-19 cases from the U.S. in May 2021, with significant variants like B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 identified alongside unique mutations not previously documented in major databases.
  • - The research highlighted that the ORF1a protein had the highest mutation density, and the D614G mutation in the spike protein was most common, suggesting the emergence of diverse lineages and the potential for further viral evolution

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a heavy burden in China. Nutritional support for GC patients is closely related to postoperative rehabilitation. However, the role of early oral feeding after laparoscopic radical total gastrectomy in GC patients is unclear and high-quality research evidence is scarce.

Background: Gastric cancer is the second most common malignant tumor in China, ranking third among all malignant tumor mortality rates. Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has been shown to increase significantly the effectiveness of intraperitoneal chemotherapeutic drugs, prolong the action time of these drugs on intraperitoneal tumor cells, and enhance their diffusion in tumor tissues. HIPEC may be one of the best choices for the eradication of residual cancer cells in the abdominal cavity.

A new indole derivative colletoindole A (1), along with two new indole derivatives (2 and 3) and one known compound acropyrone (4) were isolated from cultures of Colletotrichum tropicale SCSIO 41022 derived from a mangrove plant Kandelia candel. The structures of 1-4 were determined by analysis of NMR and MS data. The cytotoxicity of 1, 2 and 4, and the COX-2 inhibitory activity of 1 and 2 were evaluated.
