Objective: We developed visual motion evoked potential (EP) measures related to navigational impairment in Alzheimer disease (AD) and have now applied these methods to explore the role of elementary perceptual and attentional mechanisms mediating these effects.
Methods: Older adult (OA) control subjects and AD patients underwent visual motion perceptual testing, attentional performance monitoring, and basic neuropsychological and visual assessments. We recorded stationary pattern onset and visual motion onset EPs as well as behavioral event-related potentials during centered visual fixation.

Alzheimer disease (AD) is associated with navigational impairments that limit functional independence. Objective: Health care providers in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) might refer to caregivers' self-report of children's treatment-related behaviors to assist in clinical decisions. However, caregivers may believe that they are adhering to treatment even though they have a different understanding of recommendations than that intended by the medical team. It was hypothesized that HRQOL would decrease with worsening disease and disability.
Methods: Patients with JIA ages 11, 14, and 17 years were recruited from 10 major rheumatology centers.
The Vaccine Research Center has developed a number of vaccine candidates for different diseases/infectious agents (HIV-1, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome virus, West Nile virus, and Ebola virus, plus a plasmid cytokine adjuvant-IL-2/Ig) based on a DNA plasmid vaccine platform. To support the clinical development of each of these vaccine candidates, preclinical studies have been performed in mice or rabbits to determine where in the body these plasmid vaccines would biodistribute and how rapidly they would clear. In the course of these studies, it has been observed that regardless of the gene insert (expressing the vaccine immunogen or cytokine adjuvant) and regardless of the promoter used to drive expression of the gene insert in the plasmid backbone, the plasmid vaccines do not biodistribute widely and remain essentially in the site of injection, in the muscle and overlying subcutis.

Background: The general health maintenance and follow-up of breast cancer survivors has not been well-studied. In a population-based sample we sought to investigate the health practices of breast cancer survivors and to compare rates of screening to women with no history of breast cancer.
Methods: Subjects were participants of the medical expenditure survey in the years 1996 and 1998, years for which information on screening were available.
As arboreal primates move through the jungle, they are immersed in visual motion that they must distinguish from the movement of predators and prey.
