Lower third molars are frequently extracted due to pathologies of the dental follicle, pericoronitis, advanced carious lesions, orthodontic reasons (risk of anterior tooth crowding) or causing periodontal or carious lesions in the distal area of the second molar. The case presented here is of a male patient that came to our Clinic experiencing pain in the distal area of one of his old bridges. The clinical examination revealed a malpositioned, but unusually functional third molar; it is a very rare situation for an initially impacted third molar to erupt in an almost horizontal position and not only to remain on the arch for a very long period of time, but also to contribute to mastication efficiency and occlusion, despite the fact that masticatory forces are distributed at a right angle on its long axis and that mastication takes place on the distal surface of the crown and root, and not on the usually occlusal cusped surface.

Introduction: In absence of treatment, old single edentulous spaces are subjected to progressively decrease in length due to tilting and rotation of the teeth situated mesial and distal. Lately when these spaces are prosthetically restored with a bridge and these teeth are becoming abutments, sanitizing of the prosthetic restoration is achieved with difficulty, the space between the pontic and the gingival surface becoming an area rich in pathogens that can cause various complications on the abutments.
Aim: Considering these aspects, in this study we wanted to highlight the presence and the types of the microorganisms that can be found under the pontic even in an ideal situation, selecting only young adult patients with a good oral hygiene and only with metal-ceramic bridges.
Wild-type and mutant transthyretin (TTR) are implicated in systemic amyloidosis (ATTR). Myopathy is a rare complication of ATTR amyloidosis, however no patient with bent spine syndrome secondary to ATTR amyloidosis has been reported so far. We present the first case of bent spine syndrome in a patient with wild-type ATTR amyloidosis who also had concomitant Alzheimer's disease.

Starting from a weak literature lead, 2, and through newly developed structure-activity relationships, we have designed and executed an unambiguous synthesis of enantiomeric SDI, 6, which is at least 10x more potent than 2. Also, 6 potently inhibits SDH in streptozotocin-diabetic rat sciatic nerve.
