Backgound: Hyperoxemia is common and associated with poor outcome during veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) support for cardiogenic shock. However, little is known about practical daily management of oxygenation. Then, we aim to describe sweep gas oxygen fraction (FO), postoxygenator oxygen partial pressure (PO), inspired oxygen fraction (FO), and right radial arterial oxygen partial pressure (PO) between day 1 and day 7 of peripheral VA ECMO support.

For many years, researchers have been investigating how the creative process occurs and what factors influence it. The scope of these studies is essential in the school context to enable pupils to develop their creativity and thus address the needs of the 21st century society. Although very rich, these studies are generally not situated in a real teaching and learning context.

Drug Target Prediction Using Context-Specific Metabolic Models Reconstructed from rFASTCORMICS.

Metabolic modeling is a powerful computational tool to analyze metabolism. It has not only been used to identify metabolic rewiring strategies in cancer but also to predict drug targets and candidate drugs for repurposing. Here, we will elaborate on the reconstruction of context-specific metabolic models of cancer using rFASTCORMICS and the subsequent prediction of drugs for repurposing using our drug prediction workflow.

[Clinicopathologic features and postoperative outcome of the radiation-induced enteritis: a retrospective study of 41 patients].

Introduction: Surgery is required in patients with symptoms of chronic radiation-induced enteritis (CRE) resistant to medical therapy. The study aimed to correlate histopathologic features of CRE to the clinical presentation and the postoperative recurrence.

Material And Method: All patients with small bowel resection performed for CRE between 2006 and 2017 were studied.

Controllable Fabrication of Inhomogeneous Microcapsules for Triggered Release by Osmotic Pressure.

Inhomogeneous microcapsules that can encapsulate various cargo for controlled release triggered by osmotic shock are designed and reported. The microcapsules are fabricated using a microfluidic approach and the inhomogeneity of shell thickness in the microcapsules can be controlled by tuning the flow rate ratio of the middle phase to the inner phase. This study demonstrates the swelling of these inhomogeneous microcapsules begins at the thinnest part of shell and eventually leads to rupture at the weak spot with a low osmotic pressure.

Accuracy of smartphone application to monitor heart rate.

Background: The use of smartphone applications to monitor heart rate has become increasingly popular. However, there is limited research available on the validity of these applications. The purpose of this study was to examine the accuracy of a free heart rate monitoring application on two smartphone platforms while at rest and during moderate intensity exercise.

A European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine Academic Debate: Describing Experienced Health on the Basis of the WHO's Model of Functioning (ICF) or on the Theory of Social Productivity.

The first Academic Debate was held within the European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (EARM) in Budapest in 2016. The question debated was: is it possible to provide a theory neutral framework to describe the lived experience of health or is there an appropriate theory to understand what constitute the most relevant factors in health (and well-being). First the link between the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and rehabilitation as a key health strategy was explained.

Collective Shape Actuation of Polymer Double Emulsions by Solvent Evaporation.

We demonstrate that the shape actuation of water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion droplets can be achieved by controlling solvent evaporation in a model system, where the oil phase consists of hydrophobic homopolymer/amphiphilic block copolymer/solvent. A gradient of interfacial tension is created in the polymer shell, which drives significant deformation of the droplets in constant volume. The deformed droplets recover to their initial shape spontaneously, and shape actuation of droplets can be further tuned by osmotic pressure.

[Gastric adenoma of pyloric type associated with familial adenomatous polyposis: A rare histological type not to be overlooked].

We report here two cases of gastric adenomas of pyloric type diagnosed during the follow-up of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). This rare histological lesion has been only recently described in this particular context and its clinical and pathological spectrum remains to be evaluated. Our two cases were very different in their clinical and endoscopic presentation.

A Simplified Technique for Drainage of Chronic Calcified Pleural Empyema.

Chronic pleural pocket has well-known diagnosis and treatment principles since first described by Hippocrates 2,400 years ago. However, its treatment remains constant even though its causes, severity during management, and terrain vary considerably. In well-structured health care systems, posttuberculous empyema has become rare; its well-codified medical treatment relies on early diagnosis and adapted antibiotherapy, punctures/drainage, and appropriate intrapleural antifibrinolytics.

Rural Surgery in Niger: A Multicentric Study in 21 District Hospitals.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the qualitative aspect and global impact of surgery in a district hospital (DH) since the launching of the surgery at the district level. Surgical care was provided by general practitioners (GP) who received 12-month training in surgery, certified by a "Capacity of District Surgery" (CDS) diploma. It was a prospective study during 4 years from 2007 to 2010.

Testing Postural Stability: Are the Star Excursion Balance Test and Biodex Balance System Limits of Stability Tests Consistent?

There are a variety of options to test postural stability; however many physical tests lack validity information. Two tests of postural stability - the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) and Biodex Balance System Limits of Stability Test (LOS) - were examined to determine if similar components of balance were measured. Healthy adults (n=31) completed the LOS (levels 6 and 12) and SEBT (both legs).

Environmental context affects outcome and kinematic changes at different rates during skill learning.

Based on Gentile's learning model, this study used a dart-throwing task to investigate the influence of environmental context. Novice participants (N = 32) were trained in one of four conditions, while measuring outcomes and kinematics. The interaction of regulatory conditions (stationary/in motion) and intertrial variability (present/absent) created four target conditions: (1) stationary with one location, (2) stationary with five locations, (3) moving with one movement pattern, (4) moving with five starting locations.

DEAD-box RNA helicases are present in almost all living organisms and participate in various processes of RNA metabolism. Bacterial proteins of this large family were shown to be required for translation initiation, ribosome biogenesis and RNA decay. The latter is primordial for rapid adaptation to changing environmental conditions.

The use of CFD modelling to optimise measurement of overflow rates in a downstream-controlled dual-overflow structure.

The measurement of the flow through complex combined sewer overflow structures in the frame of automated monitoring remains difficult. In this paper, a methodology based on the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling in order to improve the instrumentation of a downstream-controlled dual-overflow structure is presented. The dual-overflow structure is composed of two combined sewer overflows (CSOs) connected by a rectangular channel and controlled by a downstream gate located at the entry of the Meyzieu waste water treatment plant (close to Lyon, France).

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main bacterial species of clinical importance. Its virulence is considered multifactorial and is attributed to the combined action of a variety of molecular determinants including the virulence regulator SarA. Phosphorylation of SarA was observed to occur in vivo.

Spatiotemporal control of apical and basal living subcellular chemical environments through vertical phase separation.

Molecular distribution within living cells is organized through multiscaled compartmentalization that enables specialized processes to occur with high efficiency. The ability to control the chemical environment at a subcellular level is limited due to deficient positional control over the aqueous stimulant. Here, a multilayered microfluidic system built from polydimethylsiloxane to separate chemical stimulants over single living cells vertically through aqueous-phase separation under laminar flow is demonstrated.
