Automatic avoidance tendencies for alcohol cues predict drinking after detoxification treatment in alcohol dependence.

Alcohol dependence is characterized by conflict between approach and avoidance motivational orientations for alcohol that operate in automatic and controlled processes. This article describes the first study to investigate the predictive validity of these motivational orientations for relapse to drinking after discharge from alcohol detoxification treatment in alcohol-dependent patients. One hundred twenty alcohol-dependent patients who were nearing the end of inpatient detoxification treatment completed measures of self-reported (Approach and Avoidance of Alcohol Questionnaire; AAAQ) and automatic (modified Stimulus-Response Compatibility task) approach and avoidance motivational orientations for alcohol.

Goal Fluency, Pessimism and Disengagement in Depression.

Despite the development of prominent theoretical models of goal motivation and its importance in daily life, research has rarely examined goal dysregulation processes in clinical depression. Here we aimed to investigate problematic aspects of goal regulation in clinically depressed adults, relative to controls. Depressed participants (n = 42) were recruited from two Improving Access to Psychological Therapy clinics in north-west England.

Training in Clinical Oncology and the Transition from Trainee to Consultant: Results of the Royal College of Radiologists' 2015 Post-Certificate of Completion of Training Survey.

Aims: To seek feedback from clinical oncologists as to their experiences of specialty training and, where applicable, the transition to working as a consultant in the National Health Service.

Materials And Methods: All clinical oncologists gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training between 1 July 2012 and 30 June 2014 were identified through records held by the Royal College of Radiologists and approached in May 2015 to take part in an online survey.

Results: The survey was completed by 38 of 80 clinical oncologists invited to take part (48% response rate).

Model-based glycaemic control: methodology and initial results from neonatal intensive care.

Very/extremely premature infants often experience glycaemic dysregulation, resulting in abnormally elevated (hyperglycaemia) or low (hypoglycaemia) blood glucose (BG) concentrations, due to prematurity, stress, and illness. STAR-GRYPHON is a computerised protocol that utilises a model-based insulin sensitivity parameter to directly tailor therapy for individual patients and their changing conditions, unlike other common insulin protocols in this cohort. From January 2013 to January 2015, 13 patients totalling 16 hyperglycaemic control episodes received insulin under STAR-GRYPHON.

Imaging biomarkers (IBs) are integral to the routine management of patients with cancer. IBs used daily in oncology include clinical TNM stage, objective response and left ventricular ejection fraction. Diagnosing Dementia in the Clinical Setting: Can Amyloid PET Provide Additional Value Over Cerebrospinal Fluid?

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) measures of amyloid and tau are the first-line Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in many clinical centers. We assessed if and when the addition of amyloid PET following CSF measurements provides added diagnostic value. Twenty patients from a cognitive clinic, who had undergone detailed assessment including CSF measures, went on to have amyloid PET.

F-FECH PET/CT to Assess Clinically Significant Disease in Prostate Cancer: Correlation With Maximum and Total Cancer Core Length Obtained via MRI-Guided Template Mapping Biopsies.

Objective: The objective of this study was to detect clinically significant and insignificant prostate cancer on F-fluoroethylcholine (FECH) PET/CT and to correlate findings with transperineal template-guided prostate mapping (TPM) biopsy.

Subjects And Methods: Fifty-six lobes of the prostate were analyzed in 28 men who underwent FECH PET/CT and TPM. Whole-body images and pelvic images were acquired at 60 and 90 minutes after tracer administration.

The effects of formulated sodium nitrate plus supplemental nitrate (SN) from celery juice powder on residual nitrite, residual nitrate, rancidity, microbial growth, color, sensory properties, and proximate composition of frankfurters, cotto salami and boneless ham during storage (1°C) were studied. Early relationships and paranoia: Qualitative investigation of childhood experiences associated with the development of persecutory delusions.

Research suggests a link between Persecutory Delusions (PDs) and early interpersonal difficulties. However, little research has explored the first-hand experience of navigating such adversities in those who later developed PDs. The current study reports on a qualitative investigation of the early interpersonal experiences and challenges faced by a sample of individuals who have recovered from PDs, using a semi-structured interview.

MR Imaging-Guided Partial Volume Correction of PET Data in PET/MR Imaging.

Objectives: Suspected seizures are a common reason for emergency calls to ambulance services. Prehospital management of these patients is an important element of good quality care. The aim of this study, conducted in a regional ambulance service in the UK, was to quantify the number of emergency telephone calls for suspected seizures in adults, the associated costs, and to describe the patients' characteristics, their prehospital management and their immediate outcomes.
