In this editorial, we comment on the article by Liu . Based on our analysis of a case report, we consider that early screening and recognition of primary nasal tuberculosis are crucial for patients undergoing treatment with tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi). While TNFi therapy increases the risk of reactivating latent tuberculosis, primary nasal tuberculosis remains rare due to the protective mechanisms of the nasal mucosa.

Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) are widely used due to their high strength, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity. However, gaps in between core concrete and steel tube adversely affect the mechanical performance of structures, thereby compromising the safety of the building. In this paper, four concrete-filled steel tube specimens with spherical-cap gaps were designed, and quasi-static tests were conducted to investigate the impact of gap depth on the seismic performance of concrete-filled steel tube columns.

As a conversion-type cathode material, FeS emerges as a promising candidate for the next generation of energy storage solutions, attributed to its cost-effectiveness, environment-friendliness and high theoretical capacity. However, several challenges hinder its practical application, including sluggish kinetics, insulating reaction products and significant volume fluctuation during cycling, which collectively compromise its rate capability and cycle stability. Herein, a well-designed sandwich structure of FeS embedded between graphite layers (FeS/C) is obtained using a chloride intercalation and sulfidation strategy.

Accurate identification and isolation of target cells are crucial for precision diagnosis and treatment. DNA aptamer-based logic devices provide a distinct advantage in this context, as they can logically analyze multiple cell surface markers with high efficiency. However, the susceptibility of natural DNA (D-DNA) to degradation can compromise the sensitivity and specificity of these devices, potentially leading to false-positive and false-negative results, particularly in complex biological environments.

Tumour immunotherapy represented by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has greatly improved the overall prognosis of patients with malignant tumours, and is regarded as an important breakthrough in the field of medicine in recent years. ICIs have gradually become the core of tumour therapy and are increasingly used in the clinic. In order to achieve early clinical prediction and management of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), it is still necessary to perform further research on the mechanisms, risk factors, and predictors of irAE occurrence in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • Neuroendocrine bladder cancer (NEBC) is challenging to treat, and there's a growing interest in using immunotherapy, but its immunogenic profiles are not well-studied.
  • A comprehensive analysis of NEBC using various methods (genomic, transcriptomic, and single-cell RNA sequencing) revealed it generally has an inactive immune environment, despite high mutation rates; however, some mixed types show immune activity that could influence prognosis.
  • Findings suggest that while immune checkpoint inhibitors alone are not very effective for NEBC, combining immunotherapy with chemotherapy may improve treatment responses and offer new pathways for reducing mortality.

This study was conducted to investigate whether lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) could improve the development of porcine somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) embryos. Porcine SCNT-derived embryos were cultured in chemically defined polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based porcine zygote medium (PZM)-4 without or with LPA, and the development, cell proliferation potential, apoptosis, and expression levels of pluripotent markers were evaluated. LPA significantly increased the rates of cleavage and blastocyst formation compared to those seen in the LPA un-treatment (control) group.

Transient electric fields across cell bilayer membranes can lead to electroporation and cell fusion, effects crucial to cell viability whose biological implications have been extensively studied. However, little is known about these behaviours in a materials context. Here we find that transmembrane electric fields can lead to a massive, reversible modulation of the sliding friction between surfaces coated with lipid-bilayer membranes-a 200-fold variation, up to two orders of magnitude greater than that achieved to date.
