This method uses ultra performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to determine the total folates in infant formulas and adult nutritionals after trienzyme digestion. Deconjugation of the various folate polyglutamates to folate monoglutamates is achieved by using rat plasma conjugase after the sample digestion with protease and a-amylase during the trienzyme digestion process.

A better understanding of the relative risk of amputation after TTC fusion and the factors that influence this could help the preoperative consultation and guide discussion on the economics of limb salvage.
Methods: One hundred seventy-nine limbs were treated with TTC fusion with an intramedullary nail.

Subjects And Methods: Data were pooled from three 24-week insulin trials including patients on twice-daily (BID) insulin lispro mix 75/25 (75% insulin lispro protamine suspension, 25% insulin lispro) (n=805), daily (QD) insulin glargine (n=1,019), insulin lispro protamine suspension (n=353) (QD or BID), and insulin detemir (n=166) (QD or BID), all with continuation of prestudy oral antihyperglycemic medications. Glycemic variability measures were derived from seven-point self-monitored blood glucose profiles.
A 7-year-old Connemara stallion was presented with a 4 month history of blepharospasm, recurrent corneal ulcerations, mucopurulent ocular discharge, and keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) in both eyes unresponsive to medical therapy. Ophthalmic examination revealed lackluster corneas, axial corneal scarring and pigmentation with associated neovascularization, and absolute KCS in both eyes. Computed tomography scan and endoscopic evaluation of the upper airway and guttural pouches revealed no structural abnormalities to indicate neurogenic KCS.

PCI-stenting of the ULMCA, while controversial, is emerging as an alternative to coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery in select patients and clinical situations.
Methods: Between January 2005 and December 2008, PCI-stenting was performed on 125 patients with ULMCA lesions at our institution.
Objective: We evaluated the addition of liraglutide to metformin in type 2 diabetes followed by intensification with basal insulin (detemir) if glycated hemoglobin (A1C) ≥7%.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether diabetes type 2 causes thinning of retinal layers as a sign of neurodegeneration and to investigate the possible relationship between this thinning and duration of diabetes mellitus, diabetic retinopathy (DR) status, age, sex, and glycemic control (HbA1c).
Methods: Mean layer thickness was calculated for retinal layers following automated segmentation of spectral domain optical coherence tomography images of diabetic patients with no or minimal DR and compared with controls. To determine the relationship between layer thickness and diabetes duration, DR status, age, sex, and HbA1c, a multiple linear regression analysis was used.
