Cellular homeostasis maintained by several cellular processes such as autophagy, apoptosis, inflammation, oxidative stress, aging, and neurodegeneration, contribute to cell growth and development. Cancer cells undergo aberrant changes from a normal cell that show abnormal behaviour such as reduced apoptosis and autophagy, increased oxidative stress and inflammation. Various pharmacological and genetic inhibitors have been reported as drug candidates to control cancer cells, but the use of natural molecules as anti-cancer agents are limited.

It was classified under the malignant category in the 2005 WHO but has been re-classified under benign epithelial odontogenic tumors in the latest 2017 WHO classification. The present review aimed at gathering the available data on METAM to update the current cognizance about the pathology.

The high specificity of aptamers with small-molecule targets (metal ions, dyes and theophylline; ATP) is within 1 pM and 1 μM range, whereas with the proteins (thrombin, CD4 and antibodies) it is in the nanomolar range (which is equivalent to monoclonal antibodies). The recently identified coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) genome encodes for various proteins, such as envelope, membrane, nucleocapsid, and spike protein.

Methods: Cytokine array analysis, Reactome and STRING analysis, immunoblotting, and immunocytochemistry were used to investigate the molecular mechanisms governing inflammation-driven adverse changes in human prostatic cells caused by the sexually transmitted infection, Trichomonas vaginalis, resulting in prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.
Results: Array analysis showed upregulation of 23 cytokines within 24 h of infection of human prostatic epithelial RWPE-1 cells with the parasite, in vitro.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous preparation that has been claimed to improve healing and mechanobiological properties of tendons both in vitro and in vivo. In this sub-study from the PATH-2 (PRP in Achilles Tendon Healing-2) trial, we report the cellular and growth factor content and quality of the Leukocyte-rich PRP (L-PRP) (N = 103) prepared using a standardized commercial preparation method across 19 different UK centers. Baseline whole blood cell counts (red cells, leukocyte and platelets) demonstrated that the two groups were well-matched.

Formation of secondary plant metabolite(s) in medicinal plants depends on several factors and in this study the cause of variation in bioavailability and content of a vital bioactive phytochemical, mahanine in the MK leaves from different geographical locations of varying soil properties and weather parameters was determined. Accordingly, MK leaves and soil samples around the plant base in quintuplicate from each site across five states of India at similar time point were collected.

Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy and safety of IV iron therapy with oral iron supplements in iron deficiency anemia.
Methods: An observational study was carried out by allocating 100 patients with baseline hemoglobin between 5 and 10 g/dL into two groups of oral iron and IV iron group.
Molecular characterization studies on Setaria equina are limited. The present study aimed to characterize S. equina at the cytochrome c oxidase gene and to examine its phylogenetic relationships with other filarid species.

The resulting conductive and pure copper layers were thoroughly analysed and a comparison of precursor and process with the previously reported silver analogue [Ag(NHC)(hmds)] revealed interesting similarities and notable differences in precursor chemistry and growth characteristics. This first report of APP-ALD grown copper layers is an important starting point for high throughput, low-cost manufacturing of copper films for nano- and optoelectronic devices.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTaste and odor (T&O) are an important issue in drinking water, aquaculture, recreation and a few other associated industries, and cyanobacteria-relevant geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) are the two most commonly detected T&O compounds worldwide. A rise in the cyanobacterial blooms and associated geosmin/2-MIB episodes due to anthropogenic activities as well as climate change has led to global concerns for drinking water quality. The increasing awareness for the safe drinking, aquaculture or recreational water systems has boost the demand for rapid, robust, on-site early detection and monitoring system for cyanobacterial geosmin/2-MIB events.

Medicinal plants have always been used for snakebite treatment by traditional healers but they lack scientific evidence of action. However secondary metabolites of such plants have been explored and found to inhibit the toxic effect of venom proteins. Literature survey from 2003 to 2019 resulted in identification of 251 secondary metabolites with such properties.

The fabrication of high quality MoS2 either as homogeneous films or as two-dimensional layers on large areas is thus the objective of intense research. Since industry requirements on MoS2 thin films can hardly be matched by established exfoliation fabrication methods, there is an enhanced need for developing new chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes where a rational precursor selection is a crucial step.

Effects of fats and oils on pasting and textural properties of soft and hard wheat flours were investigated. Fats and oils significantly diminished peak viscosity, trough, breakdown, setback, final viscosity and escalated the pasting temperature. Effects on pasting properties were found more noticeable for soft wheat flour.

Single stranded RNA viruses were known to cause variety of diseases since many years and are gaining much importance due to pandemic after the identification of a novel corona virus (severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2)). Seven coronaviruses (CoVs) are known to infect humans and they are OC43 CoV, NL63 CoV, HKU1 CoV, Middle East respiratory syndrome, SARS CoV, and SARS CoV-2. Virus replication weakens the immune system of host thereby altering T-cell count and much of interferon response.

We consider a finite, diploid population evolving in a periodically changing environment and study how the fixation probability of a rare mutant depends on its dominance coefficient and the rate of environmental change. We find that, in slowly changing environments, the effect of dominance is the same as in the static environment, that is, if a mutant is beneficial (deleterious) when it appears, it is more (less) likely to fix if it is dominant.
