Background: The European literature on mental health of the children of immigrants is limited. Therefore this study aims to investigate gender-specific mental health reported by teachers, parents and the children themselves in 12-year old children of immigrants and non-immigrants and also to study the level of agreement between the different informants.

Methods: This cross-sectional study is a part of the longitudinal South East Sweden Birth Cohort-study (the SESBiC-study) on children's health.

Background: Depression is a common and disabling condition with a high relapse frequency. Maternal mental health problems and experience of traumatic life events are known to increase the risk of behavior problems in children. Recently, genetic factors, in particular gene-by-environment interaction models, have been implicated to explain depressive etiology.

Children of depressed mothers have been shown to express behaviour problems to a greater extent than children of non-depressed mothers. The purpose of this study was to examine the persistence of depressive symptoms in mothers and to evaluate the relative importance of symptoms of postpartum depression (PPD) and concurrent maternal symptoms of depression, on child behaviour at age 12. A birth cohort of 1,707 children and their mothers was followed from 3 months after birth to 12 years after birth.

Time is the most important variable in healthcare, and standards are needed about how to represent information with explicit references to time. In this paper, the European Prestandard 'TSMI: time standards for healthcare specific problems' (CEN/TC251 preENV 12381) is presented which aims to be the first contribution to this harmonisation process, focusing on 'representation' and 'explicit reference' of temporal information in healthcare. The prestandard is mainly composed of two parts.

Mammary carcinoma tissue from 514 primary breast cancer patients were all biochemically and histochemically analyzed for both estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors. The dextran-coated charcoal (DCC) method measured the ER and PR as defined by Scatchard analysis, ligand competition experiments and target organ specificity. The ligands, estradiol-6-carboxymethyloxime-BSA-fluoresceine isothiocyanate and hydroxyprogesteronehemisuccinate-BSA-tetramethylrhodamine isothiocyanate, used for histochemistry, did not bind to either ER or PR and were mainly bound to the membrane fraction of isolated breast cancer cells.

Serum parameters of calcium metabolism were measured in 32 consecutive patients with biopsy-proven cirrhosis due to either hepatitis (n = 13), alcohol abuse (n = 11), Wilson's disease (n = 3), or primary or secondary biliary cirrhosis (n = 5). All measurements were normal in the small group of patients with Wilson's disease. The serum concentrations of albumin, vitamin D-binding protein, total calcium, phosphorus, and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25-(OH2)D3) were decreased in the other patients with cirrhosis, but their mean serum concentrations of ionized calcium, 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25-OHD3) and free 1,25-(OH2)D3 index were normal.
