Radiation recall dermatitis is an inflammatory reaction of the skin that may infrequently occur in areas of the skin that have been previously treated with radiation therapy. This is thought to be due to a triggering agent administered after radiation therapy which leads to an acute inflammatory reaction, manifesting as a skin rash. We present the case of a 58-year-old male with recurrent invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, previously treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy, who presented with progression of his disease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: Radiotherapy (RT) is associated with improved survival in atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (ATRT); however, optimal RT delivery is unknown. A meta-analysis was conducted for disseminated (M+) ATRT receiving focal or craniospinal radiation (CSI).
Methods: After abstract screening, 25 studies (1995-2020) contained necessary patient, disease, and radiation treatment information (N = 96).
The cell as a system of many components, governed by the laws of physics and chemistry drives molecular functions having an impact on the spatial organization of these systems and vice versa. Since the relationship between structure and function is an almost universal rule not only in biology, appropriate methods are required to parameterize the relationship between the structure and function of biomolecules and their networks, the mechanisms of the processes in which they are involved, and the mechanisms of regulation of these processes. Single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM), which we focus on here, offers a significant advantage for the quantitative parametrization of molecular organization: it provides matrices of coordinates of fluorescently labeled biomolecules that can be directly subjected to advanced mathematical analytical procedures without the need for laborious and sometimes misleading image processing.

Objectives: This study aimed to characterize feeding/swallowing difficulties in children with esophageal atresia and/or tracheoesophageal fistula (EA/TEF) and evaluate associations among feeding difficulties, pharyngeal dysphagia (PD), and other aerodigestive evaluation findings.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of feeding/swallowing characteristics of 44 patients with EA/TEF treated in the aerodigestive program of a single academic medical institution from 2010 to 2015. Demographics, comorbidities, presence and characteristics of feeding/swallowing difficulties, and results of relevant diagnostic tests [videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), clinical feeding evaluations (CFEs), chest computerized tomography (CT) scans, pulmonary bronchoscopies, and upper GI (UGI)/esophagrams] were reviewed.
Genetic diversity within species represents a fundamental yet underappreciated level of biodiversity. Because genetic diversity can indicate species resilience to changing climate, its measurement is relevant to many national and global conservation policy targets. Many studies produce large amounts of genome-scale genetic diversity data for wild populations, but most (87%) do not include the associated spatial and temporal metadata necessary for them to be reused in monitoring programs or for acknowledging the sovereignty of nations or Indigenous peoples.

Here we report that hyperthermia decreases H4K16 acetylation (H4K16ac), an epigenetic modification essential for genome stability and transcription. Heat-induced reduction in H4K16ac was detected in humans, , and yeast, indicating that this is a highly conserved response.
