Vine shoots are lignocellulosic agricultural residues. In addition to being an interesting source of polyphenols, they can be used as fillers in a poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) matrix to decrease the overall cost and to propose an alternative to non-biodegradable fossil-based materials. Several strategies to synthesize fluorinated (co)polymers containing phosphorus groups and their applications are reviewed. First, original fluoromonomers bearing phosphorus atoms are supplied from relevant routes. Five chitosans with different degrees of -acetylation (DAs), molar masses, and origins were depolymerized by nitrous acid treatment in acidic media, leading to water-soluble 2,5-anhydro-d-mannose chain end oligomers with DP < 20. The kinetics of the reaction was studied, and the best work conditions were found to be 3 h reaction at 50 °C. It was shown that the DP of oligomers only depends on the quantity of NaNO involved.

This study aimed to compare macrostructural and microstructural neurodegenerative changes remote from a cervical spinal cord injury in traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) and degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) patients using quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Twenty-nine tSCI patients, 20 mild/moderate DCM patients, and 22 healthy controls underwent a high-resolution MRI protocol at the cervical cord (C2/C3). High-resolution T2*-weighted and diffusion-weighted scans provided data to calculate tissue-specific cross-sectional areas of the spinal cord and tract-specific diffusion indices of cord white matter, respectively.

Although laparoscopic one anastomosis gastric bypass (LOAGB) is a promising bariatric procedure, a large number of surgeons have strong objections mainly because of risk of bile reflux, marginal ulceration, malnutrition, and long-term risk of gastric and esophageal cancer. Lateral enteroenterostomy placed distally to a gastrojejunal anastomosis shows efficacy in preventing bile reflux after gastric resection and gastrojejunal anastomosis, but at present its efficacy in a bariatric surgery context has not been evaluated. The present contribution reports on the synthesis via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of a methacrylate derivative bearing an aminobisphosponate moiety as a pendant group, namely, ethyl ,-tetramethylbis(phosphonate)-bis(methylene) amine methacrylate (MAC₂NP₂). The polymerization was performed by the use of cyanoisopropyl dithiobenzoate as chain transfer agent at 70 °C in various solvents with different polarities including ,-dimethylformamide, acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran, and in bulk. Best results were obtained in ,-dimethylformamide where higher conversions and polymerization rates were noticed.

Materials that are both biodegradable and bio-sourced are becoming serious candidates for substituting traditional petro-sourced plastics that accumulate in natural systems. New biocomposites have been produced by melt extrusion, using bacterial polyester (poly(3-hydroxybutyrate3-hydroxyvalerate)) as a matrix and cellulose particles as fillers. In this study, gas-phase esterified cellulose particles, with palmitoyl chloride, were used to improve filler-matrix compatibility and reduce moisture sensitivity.
