Objective: To investigate the risk factors and the values of early invasive intervention in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) without ST-segment elevation.
Methods: Five hundred and forty-five patients of ACS without ST-segment elevation were randomly assigned to an early conservative strategy or early invasive strategy who had been admitted to hospitals consecutively from Oct. 2001 to Oct.

Objective: Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome (JLNS) is a severe cardioauditory syndrome manifested as QT interval prolongation, abnormal T waves, and relative bradycardia ventricular tachyarrhythmias. In this report, we screened a nonconsanguineous families with JLNS for mutations in KCNQ1.
Methods: Mutation analysis was performed by using purified PCR products to direct sequence analysis on an ABI-3730XL automated DNA sequencer.
Objective: To study the nuclear translocation of extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) and expression of c-fos mRNA under stimulation of AngII as well as the influence on the nuclear translocation of ERK with different interferences in neonatal cultured cardiomyocytes.
Methods: ERK in the cytoplasm or nucleus was observed by immunocytochemistry using specific antibody and the expression of c-fos was evaluated with RT-PCR technique.
Results: AngII (10(-6) mol/L) had the effect in promoting activation of ERK and then appeared in nucleus rapidly.

Objective: To observe the effect of pulse wave velocity (PWV) on coronary flow reserve (CFR) in patients with essential hypertension (EH).
Methods: 108 patients with EH were divided into three groups according to the blood pressure (BP) status and antihypertensive drug therapy (ADT): group A (n = 41, with ADT and BP failing to reach the standard), group B (n = 27, with high BP and without ADT), and group C (n = 40, with ADT and BP reaching the standard). Twenty-five sex, age, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, heart rate, fasting glycemia and lipid level-matched healthy persons were used as controls (group D).

Objective: To investigate the effects of withdrawal of statins on endothelial nitric oxide production in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).
Methods: HUVECs were treated with simvastatin or lovastatin (10(-6) mmol/L) for 24 hours, then the drugs were replaced by a medium. At 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours after stopping statin treatment, nitric oxide production was measured with Griess reagents.

Objective: To study the relationship between serum advanced fibrinogen and the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
Methods: In a collection of 195 patients suspected of coronary artery disease (CAD), coronary artery stenosis was studied with coronary angiography. The severity of coronary artery disease was quantified with a modified Gensini score on the basis of angiographic imaging manipulation system.
Objective: To assess the effects of gender on heart rate adjustment of ST segment depression (ST/HR) for identifying coronary arteriosclerotic disease.
Methods: One hundred and seventy three patients with suspected coronary disease (CAD) were referred for a routine treadmill exercise electrocardiogram and subsequently they underwent selective coronary angiography within 3 weeks. The magnitude of ST segment depression, ST/HR slope and calculated ST/HR index are performed by a computerized ECG system; exercise was performed according to the cornell protocol.
Objective: To study the disease-causing gene mutation in Chinese with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and to analyze the correlation between the genotype and phenotype.
Methods: Samples of peripheral blood were collected from five Chinese patients with HCM in whose families at least 2 HCM patients existed. The exon in the functional regions of the beta myosin heavy chain gene (beta-MHC) were amplified with PCR and the products were sequenced.

Objective: To evaluate the predicting values of thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) risk scoring system for long-term prognosis in patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) referred for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Methods: Eight clinical variables and their relative value of score derived from TIMI risk scoring system were used to determine individual's risk score. The patients with STEMI were evaluated during the period of in-hospital and followed-up at a mean of (23.
Objective: To know the current prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in China and contribute to further Chinese studies on AF in future.
Methods: We chose 14 natural populations from 14 different provinces across China. Using international standardized methods, we performed an epidemical study which was mainly on AF.

Objective: To search for the mutations of potassium voltage-gated channel, KQT-like subfamily member 1(KCNQ1) gene in 31 Chinese long QT syndrome(LQTS) families.
Methods: Due to the genetic heterogeneity, the genotype of patients was first predicted based on the spectrum of ST-T-wave patterns on ECG. Ten of 31 probands were considered as LQT1.

Objective: To evaluate the spectrum of ST-T-wave patterns in Chinese patients with hereditary long-QT syndrome.
Methods: ECGs of 61 families were studied to determine ST-T-wave patterns. Genotypes were identified by sequencing.

Objective: To determine the strength of oral anticoagulation therapy in atrial fibrillation that provides the best balance between the prevention of thromboembolism and the occurrence of bleeding complications.
Methods: We studied 435 patients with atrial fibrillation who were hospitalized from 2000 to 2002 and given warfarin for prevention of thromboembolism. INR-specified rates for both ischemic and major hemorrhagic events were analyzed and the optimal levels of anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation patients determined.

Objective: To assess the feasibility, safety and effectiveness of video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathectomy (VATS) for the treatment of congenital long QT syndrome.
Methods: Under general anaesthesia, pleural cavity was entered via two or three small incisions in the left intercostal space. The left thoracic sympathetic chain was identified and resected from T2 approximately T5.

Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the risk factors in Chinese with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and stroke, using case-control methodology.
Methods: A total of 4 511 adult patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation were identified from 18 hospitals over a 2-year period. There were 1 086 patients with rheumatic valvular atrial fibrillation and 3 425 patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
Objective: The purpose of the study is to prospectively investigate the safety and efficacy of anticoagulation with enoxaparin (Clexane) in UA/NQMI patients undergoing PCI procedures.
Methods: UA/NQMI patients received Clexane 1 mg/kg, subcutaneously, q12h for at least 48 hours, the coronary angiography was immediately followed by PCI when indicated and is performed within 8 h after the morning injection. No additional UFH or LMWH was used during or after PCI.
