The lipid cis-trans isomerase (Cti) is a periplasmic heme-c enzyme found in several bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a pathogen known for causing nosocomial infections. This metalloenzyme catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of unsaturated fatty acids in order to rapidly modulate membrane fluidity in response to stresses that impede bacterial growth. As a consequence, breakthrough in the elucidation of the mechanism of this metalloenzyme might lead to new strategies to combat bacterial antibiotic resistance.

Iron sulphur halide clusters [FeSBr] and [FeSXY] (X, Y = Cl, Br, I) were obtained in excellent yields (77 to 78%) and purity from [Fe(CO)], elemental sulphur, I and benzyltrimethylammonium (BTMA) iodide, bromide and chloride. Single crystals of (BTMA)[FeSBr] (1), (BTMA)[FeSBrCl] (2), (BTMA)[FeSClI] (3), and (BTMA)[FeSBrI] (4) were isostructural to the previously reported (BTMA)[FeSI] (5) (monoclinic, ). Instead of the chloride cubane cluster [FeSCl], we found the prismane-shaped cluster (BTMA)[FeSCl] (6) (1̄).

Sulfuration of uridine 8, in bacterial and archaeal tRNAs, is catalyzed by enzymes formerly known as ThiI, but renamed here TtuI. Two different classes of TtuI proteins, which possess a PP-loop-containing pyrophosphatase domain that includes a conserved cysteine important for catalysis, have been identified. We have studied activation of the methyl C-H bonds in the cyclopentadienyl ligands of half-sandwich Rh(III) complexes [-CpRh(N,N')Cl] by observing the dependence of sequential H/D exchange on variations in Cp = Cp* (complexes 1 and 2), MePhCp (Cp, 3) or MePhPhCp (Cp, 4), and chelated ligand ,' (bpy, 1; phen, 2-4). H/D exchange was fastest in d-MeOD ( = 10 min, 37 °C, complex 1), no H/D exchange was observed in DMSO/DO, and d-MeOD enhanced the rate in CDCN. The proposed Rh(I)-fulvene intermediate was trapped by [4 + 2] Diels-Alder reactions with conjugated dienes and characterized.
