The popularity of multi-gene testing has identified more families with two or more pathogenic variants (PV) in cancer predisposition genes, also known as 'MINAS' (multilocus inherited neoplasia alleles syndromes). They are at risk of suboptimal treatment and management as little on this topic is known. We conducted a systematic review of published MINAS cases within cancer predisposition genes to understand their association with more severe presentations.

Most transition metal-based electrocatalysts, when used for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), undergo significant restructuring under alkaline conditions, forming localized oxides/hydroxides (MOOH), which act as the real active centers, activating adjacent metal sites and creating new active sites that enhance electrocatalytic behavior. Nevertheless, inducing rapid and in-depth self-reconstruction of catalyst surfaces remains a huge challenge. Herein, this work achieves rapid and in-depth self-reconstruction by doping fluorine into the lattice of transition metal oxides (MO).

Saccharides and peptides with markedly disparate stereochemical features serve as pivotal chiral molecular partners in living systems. The importance of glycosylation in influencing glycopeptide self-assembly has been recognized. However, how different chiral combinations of saccharides and peptides influence the macroscopic hydrogel mechanics, fiber nanomechanics, asymmetric molecular packing, and thermodynamic changes during glycopeptide self-assembly remains unknown.

Compounds having hexagonal tungsten oxides (HTO) topology are of intense research interests owing to their potential functional properties, such as nonlinear optical (NLO) performances. However, most of the reported HTO-type compounds exhibit narrow optical bandgaps because of the d-d electronic transition of compositional d transition metals and lone pair electrons effect of Se/Te, which hinder their applications in the high-energy field, such as deep-ultraviolet (deep-UV) region. In this work, a new fluorophosphate, (NH)[ScF(PO)](POF) exhibiting HTO-topological structures is reported.

The continuous push for high-performance photonic switches is one of the most crucial premises for the sustainable scaling of programmable and reconfigurable photonic circuits for a wide spectrum of applications. Conventional optical switches rely on the perturbative mechanisms of mode coupling or mode interference, resulting in inherent bottlenecks in their switching performance concerning size, power consumption and bandwidth. Here we propose and realize a silicon photonic 2×2 elementary switch based on a split waveguide crossing (SWX) consisting of two halves.

In situ measurement of nitric oxide (NO) in living tissue and single cells is highly important for achieving a profound comprehension of cellular functionalities and facilitating the precise diagnosis of critical diseases; however, the progress is greatly hindered by the weak affinity of ultratrace concentration NO in cellular environment toward electrocatalysts. Herein, a new strategy is reported for precisely constructing orbital coupled dual-atomic sites to enhance the affinity between the metal atomic sites and NO on a class of N-doped hollow carbon matrix dual-atomic sites Co─Ni (CoNi-NC) for greatly boosting electrocatalytic NO performance. The as-synthesized CoNi-NC demonstrates a substantially higher current density than Ni-NC and Co-NC, coupled with exceptional stability with a negligible degradation rate of 0.

The stress status of a soil pressure cell placed in soil is very different from its stress state in a uniform fluid medium. The use of the calibration coefficient provided by the soil pressure cell manufacturer will produce a large error. In order to improve the measurement accuracy of the interface-type earth pressure cell placed in soil, this paper focuses on a single-membrane resistive earth pressure cell installed on the surface of a structure, analyzing the influence of loading and unloading cycles, the thickness and particle size of the sand filling, and the depth of the earth pressure cell inserted in the structure on the calibration curve and matching error, which were analyzed through calibration tests.

Mutations reducing the function of MYT1L, a neuron-specific transcription factor, are associated with a syndromic neurodevelopmental disorder. MYT1L is used as a pro-neural factor in fibroblast-to-neuron transdifferentiation and is hypothesized to influence neuronal specification and maturation, but it is not clear which neuron types are most impacted by MYT1L loss. In this study, we profile 412,132 nuclei from the forebrains of wild-type and MYT1L-deficient mice at three developmental stages: E14 at the peak of neurogenesis, P1 when cortical neurons have been born, and P21 when neurons are maturing, to examine the role of MYT1L levels on neuronal development.

Background: Automatic primary gross tumor volume (GTVp) segmentation for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a quite challenging task because of the existence of similar visual characteristics between tumors and their surroundings, especially on computed tomography (CT) images with severe low contrast resolution. Therefore, most recently proposed methods based on radiomics or deep learning (DL) is difficult to achieve good results on CT datasets.

Purpose: A peritumoral radiomics-guided generative adversarial network (PRG-GAN) was proposed to address this challenge.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates changes in blood coagulation factors in children with severe pneumonia, including indicators like prothrombin time (PT) and D-dimer (D-D), to assess their clinical significance and prognosis.
  • Results show that children with critically severe pneumonia have higher levels of coagulation indicators compared to those with common pneumonia and that D-D and fibrinogen degradation product (FDP) levels negatively correlate with pneumonia severity.
  • The findings suggest that measuring these coagulation markers can aid clinicians in evaluating the severity and prognosis of pneumonia, with FDP and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) identified as key factors influencing outcomes.
