Friedrich's disease is an avascular necrosis of the sternal end of the clavicle which runs a typical course with different stages. Surgical treatment is advised with resection-arthroplasty of the lower pole of the sternal clavicle end. Functional results are satisfactory.

It is reported about the BCG-osteomyelitis in early childhood. A long intervall between BCG-vaccination and the onset of clinical symptoms, the good general condition of the patient, nearly unrestricted joint function, often negative bacteriological culture for the tubercle bacillus and negative guinea-pig test are characteristics. Even with extensive lesions of the epiphysis and metaphysis of the long bone and formation of an abscess, the course of the disease seems to be fairly benign.

An important factor in Perthes' disease is the primary affection of the nutritient vessels, though the etiology is unknown. The observation of four cases of painful hip disease with clinical symptoms of coxitis, but roentgenological and biopsy proofed evidence of aseptic necrosis of the epiphysis of the hip, gives reason to postulate the concept of initial synovitis as one of the possible causes of Perthes' disease. This concept is linked to Perthes-like pathology in cases of mediteranean fever with synovitis of the hip due to polyserositis.

[Tarsal tunnel syndrome].

The most prominent subjective complaints are loss of sensation and stress pains in the foot. The symptoms resemble the carpal tunnel syndrome in the hand. The reproducible local pain on pressure below the medial malleolus is the prinicpal clinical symptom.
