Background: In neurointensive care, increased intracranial pressure (ICP) is a feared secondary brain insult in traumatic brain injury (TBI). A system that predicts ICP insults before they emerge may facilitate early optimization of the physiology, which may in turn lead to stopping the predicted ICP insult from occurring. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of different artificial intelligence models in predicting the risk of ICP insults.

Background: Enhanced characterization of the atrial electrical substrate may lead to better comprehension of atrial fibrillation (AF) pathophysiology.

Objective: With the use of high-density substrate mapping, we sought to investigate the occurrence of functional electrophysiological phenomena in the left atrium and to assess potential association with arrhythmia recurrences after catheter ablation.

Methods: Sixty-three consecutive patients with AF referred for ablation were enrolled.

Article Synopsis
  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia after surgery, and this study aimed to find out how often it occurs (postoperative AF or POAF) and what factors predict it, especially focusing on inflammation markers like C-reactive protein (CRP).
  • In a study with over 53,000 patients, POAF happened in 570 patients (1.1%), primarily occurring around 3.4 days post-surgery, with a notable link between higher CRP levels and the likelihood of developing POAF.
  • The research found that patients undergoing lung and cardiovascular surgeries had the highest risk of POAF, indicating that surgery type and levels of inflammation are key predictors of this condition.

Article Synopsis
  • A retrospective evaluation of mortality in the cardiology department from 2010 to 2019 found 1182 registered deaths, primarily caused by acute myocardial infarction (53%), heart failure (11.7%), and cardiac arrest (6.6%).
  • Despite efforts to improve care, the study noted a declining trend in AMI-related deaths, dropping from 61.9% in 2010 to 46.7% in 2019, while deaths from heart failure increased from 11.1% to 25.9% during the same period.
  • Younger patients were more likely to die from cardiac arrest and other cardiac issues compared to older patients, indicating differences in mortality causes across age groups.

Health literacy is an important aspect of equitable, safe, and high-quality care. For organizations implementing health literacy initiatives, using 'change champions' appears to be a promising strategy. This systematic review aimed to identify the empirical and conceptual research that exists about health literacy champions.
