Sniffing is a motivated behavior displayed by nearly all terrestrial vertebrates. While sniffing is associated with acquiring and processing odors, sniffing is also intertwined with affective and motivated states. The systems which influence the display of sniffing are unclear.

Here we demonstrate that midbrain dopamine neurons form a circuit to the spleen via a multisynaptic pathway from the dorsal vagal complex (DVC) through the celiac ganglion. Midbrain dopamine neurons modulate the activity of D1-like and D2-like dopamine receptor-expressing DVC neurons.

Low acid diets are also associated with reduced chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, and fruits and vegetables or oral sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO) lowers dietary acid.
Methods: We randomized 153 hypertensive macroalbuminuric patients receiving pharmacologic chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease protection to get fruits and vegetables, oral NaHCO, or Usual Care.
Human infection with dengue virus (DENV) results in significant morbidity and mortality around the world. Current methods to investigate virus-associated changes in insect feeding behaviors are largely restricted to video analysis of feeding events outside of the host or intravital microscopy. Electropenetrography, a method originally developed for plant-feeding insects, offers a promising alternative by allowing high-resolution recording of voltage changes across the insect bite interface.
