The purpose of this study was to assess the hormonal function of transposed ovaries in young women treated for cervical cancer. Between 1992 and 1998, in the Silesian Medical Academy in Bytom, 101 women underwent radical hysterectomy with ovarian transposition by the Wertheim-Meigs method. Concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, estradiol and testosterone in blood serum and cytologic indices (maturation index, karyopyknotic index and maturation value) were assessed before surgery and on the ninth day after surgery.

Surgery is the mainstay of the treatment of vulvar cancer. Radical vulvectomy together with some form of lymphadenectomy is the usual treatment today, but the desire to minimize morbidity have led to a selective decrease in the extent of the surgery in recent years. We recommended retroperitoneal pelvic lymphadenectomy be used only if the inguinal nodes were positive.

Analysis was subjected on 3528 cesarean sections made in I Obstetric and Gynecology Clinic Academy of Medicine in Bytom between 1977-1992.
