Awake thoracic surgery for lung cancer treatment: where we are and future perspectives-our experience and review of literature.

Background: Lung cancer is the first cause of cancer-related death. Awake lung resection is a new frontier of the concept of minimally invasive surgery. Our purpose is to demonstrate the feasibility of this technique for lobar and sublobar lung resection in NSCLC patients.

Rare massive thoracic metastasis of endometrial cancer: Chest wall demolition and reconstruction. A case report.

Introduction: Distant recurrences are a major problem after surgical treatment for endometrial carcinoma; metastases to the bone are usually restricted to the axial skeleton, cases of costal localization are few. We present a case of a massive costal metastases successfully treated in our department.

Case Presentation: A 60-year-old woman underwent bilateral hysteroannessectomy followed by adjuvant radiotherapy for endometrial adenocarcinoma pT3a FIGO IIIA.

Heart Disease and Pectus Excavatum: An Underestimated Issue-Single Center Experience and Literature Review.

Pectus excavatum (PE) can be associated with either congenital or acquired heart disease. This study highlights the importance of PE surgical repair in cases of severe chest depression on the heart in underlying cardiac diseases exacerbating cardiopulmonary impairment. From January 2023 to March 2024, four male patients underwent PE repair, having heart disease including pericarditis, mitral valve prolapse, ventricular fibrillation arrest and type 1 second-degree atrioventricular block.

The brain extracellular space in chronic kidney disease.

The brain extracellular space (ECS) is a highly complex structure between the innumerable and intermingled processes of brain cells (neurons and glial cells). This space represents up to 20 % of total brain volume (excluding the ventricles) and hosts an extracellular matrix of proteoglycans. The regulation of this space is unclear, though it may differ from other organs due to the presence of the blood brain barrier.

Gut mucosa alterations after kidney transplantation: a cross sectional study.

Background: Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) rely on immunosuppressants like mycophenolate to prevent organ rejection. However, mycophenolate often causes intestinal symptoms and inflammation in various organs, including the skin and the colon. While KTRs have an increased risk for skin cancer, the risk of colorectal cancer is not increased.
