The basic income for care leavers in Wales pilot evaluation: Protocol of a quasi-experimental evaluation.

Background: This study will evaluate the Basic Income for Care Leavers in Wales pilot (BIP), which is the most generous basic income scheme in the world. A cohort of care-experienced young people who become aged 18 during a 12-month enrolment period (July 2022-June 2023) are receiving £1,600 (before tax) per month for two years, and the Welsh Government intends this to have a range of benefits. This evaluation will examine the impact of BIP, the implementation of the pilot and how it is experienced, and its value for money.

Background: Obesity is a global burden, which significantly increases the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). More than a quarter of adults in the United Kingdom are obese, but prevalence varies by ethnicity, and South Asians have the largest burden of NCDs. This paper assesses how sex, generation, and region interplay to vary the predisposition to obesity-related (OR) NCDs among UK Bangladeshis.

Inequalities and Inclusion in Exercise Referral Schemes: A Mixed-Method Multi-Scheme Analysis.

Physical activity prescription, commonly through exercise referral schemes, is an established disease prevention and management pathway. There is considerable heterogeneity in terms of uptake, adherence, and outcomes, but because within-scheme analyses dominate previous research, there is limited contextual understanding of this variance. Both the impact of schemes on health inequalities and best practices for inclusion of at-risk groups are unclear.

Molecular analysis of Kaposi's sarcoma occurring during haemodialysis.

Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). In this paper we attempted to confirm the connection between dialysis, HHV-8, and KS by examining the case of an elderly haemodialysis nonimmunosuppressed male patient with end-stage renal disease, who developed KS. By using PCR we have verified the presence of DNA from two different genomic regions (ORF 26 and ORF K1) of HHV-8.
