An ability to monitor cell cycle progression in real time has numerous applications in pluripotent stem cell-based models and therapeutics development. Fluorescence Ubiquitination-based Cell Cycle Indicator (FUCCI) systems enable live monitoring of the cell cycle in stem cells and their differentiated progenies in a non-invasive manner. We describe the generation and characterisation of a cell line with a doxycycline-inducible reporter system, iFUCCI, in the human embryonic stem cell (hESC) line MEL-1.

Macrolides are a group of compounds used to treat bacterial infections in humans and animals. Their widespread use results in the contamination of the water environment, which, on the one hand, has a detrimental effect on aquatic organisms and, on the other hand, can lead to the emergence of resistant strains of microorganisms. MnBiTe is a magnetic topological insulator with layered A-type antiferromagnetic order. It exhibits a rich layer- and magnetic-state dependent topological phase diagram; however, much about the coupling between spin, charge, and lattice remains to be explored. In this work, we report that MnBiTe is an excellent acoustic phonon cavity by realizing phonon frequency combs using picosecond ultrasonics.

During the last decade brain organoids have emerged as an attractive model system, allowing stem cells to be differentiated into complex 3D models, recapitulating many aspects of human brain development. Whilst many studies have analysed anatomical and cytoarchitectural characteristics of organoids, their functional characterisation has been limited, and highly variable between studies. Standardised, consistent methods for recording functional activity are critical to providing a functional understanding of neuronal networks at the synaptic and network level that can yield useful information about functional network phenotypes in disease and healthy states.
