The article is devoted to physical views on embryo development as a combination of structurally stable dynamics and symmetry-breaking events in the general process of self-organization. The first corresponds to the deterministic aspect of embryo development. The second type of processes is associated with sudden increase of variability in the periods of symmetry-breaking, which manifests unstable dynamics.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTrajectories of individual cell movements and patterns of differentiation in the axial rudiments in suprablastoporal areas (SBA) in whole embryos of Xenopus laevis artificially stretched in the transverse direction up to 120–200% from the initial length at the early gastrula stage were mapped. We observed the impairment of anisotropic cell movements of longitudinal stretching and latero-medial convergence inherent for SBA. Axial rudiments occurred in all cases, but their location was completely impaired and dramatically different from the normal topology for moderate (120–140%) stretching.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe studied the role of DNA methylation in the mechanisms of amnesia in edible snails, which was induced by impairment of conditioned food aversion memory reconsolidation with NMDA glutamate receptor antagonist. The effects of DNA methyltransferase inhibitors were shown to depend on the stage of amnesia. At the early stage of amnesia (day 3 after induction), injections of methyltransferase inhibitors in combination with conditioned food stimulus (reminder) were followed by memory recovery.
