Background: The transcription factor Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) plays a role in carcinogenesis and is involved in processes, such as proliferation, differentiation, drug resistance and immunosuppression. STAT3 can be activated by phosphorylation of tyrosine at position 705 (pSTAT3) or serine at 727 (pSTAT3). High expression levels of pSTAT3 are implicated in advanced stages of prostate cancer (PCa) and are known to interact with the androgen receptor signaling pathway.

However, current viral screening techniques use specific reagents, and as viruses mutate, test accuracy decreases. Here, we present the first real-time, reagent-free, portable analysis platform for viral detection in liquid saliva, using COVID-19 as a proof-of-concept.

While oncologists typically use tumor grading scores, such as tumor regression grade (TRG), to establish an accurate prognosis on patient outcomes, including overall survival (OS) and time-to-recurrence (TTR), these traditional methods have several limitations. They are subjective, time-consuming, and require extensive expertise, which limits their scalability and reliability.

While immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence are commonly employed, their limitations underscore the necessity for alternative approaches. This study introduces immunoplasmonic labelling, utilizing plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs), specifically designed gold and gold-silver alloy NPs (Au:Ag NPs), for multiplexed and quantitative protein detection.

Patients And Methods: The PROCURE biobank is a prospective cohort study of patients with localized prostate cancer who underwent radical prostatectomy in Quebec province between 2005 and 2013. Surgical specimens were graded by experienced genitourinary pathologists using 2019 ISUP criteria.
