The recent pandemic has considerably changed urban transportation while highlighting the weaknesses of the current transport modes. The crisis provided a unique opportunity to redesign the urban mobility plans in a more sustainable and resilient way. This study captured the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent restrictive measures on citizens' commuting habits and travel mode choice in two Cretan cities with academic communities and intense seasonality of tourism, in two phases (four periods) before, during, and after the quarantine.

Biological invasions can have dramatic impacts on communities and biodiversity, and are critical considerations in conservation and management decisions. We present a novel analysis to determine how exotic species success varies with community richness and scale of measurement. Using 5,022 plots representing natural vegetation of the Carolinas, we calculated native and exotic species richness of all vascular plants at five grain sizes.

Previous studies in a hypertensive animal model of stroke and in humans showed that mutations of the atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) gene are associated with increased risk of stroke. To elucidate the vascular disease mechanisms that result from structural modifications of the ANP gene, we investigated a coding mutation of the ANP gene in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRsp). This mutation leads to a Gly/Ser transposition in the prosegment of ANP.

Background And Purpose: A precise definition of genetic factors responsible for common forms of stroke is still lacking. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the contributory role of the genes encoding atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and type A natriuretic peptide receptor (NPRA) in humans' susceptibility to develop ischemic stroke.

In spite of a significant improvement in control of numerous predisposing risk factors, stroke remains a major health problem and a common cause of death and disability in our societies. Genetic predisposition to stroke development exists and has been documented in both animal models and in humans. However, a precise definition of genetic factors responsible for common forms of stroke is still lacking, mainly due to its complex nature, the confounding presence of other predisposing risk factors, and the genetic heterogeneity of human populations.
