Scleredema Diabeticorum: A Rare Metabolic Connective Tissue Manifestation of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Causing External Restrictive Lung Disease.

Scleredema diabeticorum (SD) is a rare metabolic connective tissue manifestation of diabetes mellitus (DM). SD commonly manifests in male patients with poorly controlled prolonged DM with obesity. In SD, the skin gets stiffened, thickened, and leathery in texture with a peau d'orange appearance commonly involving the posterior aspect of the neck and chest wall.

Pulse Duration Effects on Solution-Phase Protein Desorption in Laser Electrospray Mass Spectrometry.

The effect of laser pulse duration on the ablation of aqueous myoglobin is investigated using laser electrospray mass spectrometry (LEMS). Pulse durations of 55 femtoseconds (fs), 56 piscoseconds (ps), and 10 nanoseconds (ns) were used to ablate aqueous myoglobin from stainless-steel and quartz substrates. The integrated signal intensity of myoglobin increases with decreasing pulse duration for both substrates.

Wolf Rock lighthouse: past developments and future survivability under wave loading.

Lighthouses situated on exposed rocky outcrops warn mariners of the dangers that lurk beneath the waves. They were first constructed when approaches to wave loading and structural response were relatively unsophisticated, essentially learning from previous failures. Here, we chart the evolution of lighthouses on the Wolf Rock, situated between Land's End and the Isles of Scilly in the UK.

Back to sleep or not: the effect of the supine position on pediatric OSA: Sleeping position in children with OSA.

Background: In both adults and children, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has significant adverse cardiovascular consequences. In adults, sleeping position has a marked effect on the severity of OSA; however, the limited number of studies conducted in children have reported conflicting findings. We aimed to evaluate the effect of sleeping position on OSA severity and the cardiovascular consequences in preschool-aged children.

A study on silicosis among employees of a silica processing factory in the Central Province of Sri Lanka.

Objectives: The silica industry is rapidly expanding in Sri Lanka. The main objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of silicosis among workers exposed to silica dust, and to describe the disease pattern of the affected. We also screened the affected workers for tuberculosis.
