[The child from families with type 1 diabetes].

Diabetes type 1 is observed in individuals with a genetic predisposition to the disease. Observed is a 3-5 fold risk for congenital defects, therefore diabetes type 1 is one of the highest known teratogenic risk factor. The main factor responsible for the development of congenital defects is hyperglycemia.

[Evaluation of bacteriological research data and laboratory symptoms of infection in the diagnosis of congenital and acquired infections].

The predisposition of the newborns to contract infections diseases is dependent upon the limited efficiency of their immune mechanisms. Congenital infections amount to 5.7% in the research material, and the acquired infections 1.

[Prenatal trauma of newborns from labor with pelvic presentation in the I Obstetric Clinic Medical Academy in Wrocław in the years 1946-1990].

The analysis of 2191 labours with pelvic presentation indicated that most perinatal traumas of newborns occurred after manual extraction of the fetus, and least frequent injuries were in children delivered by caesarean section. Within the period of 45 years (1946-1990) a statistically significant decrease occurred of the number of perinatal trauma of newborns which was proportional to an increase of the number of labours terminated with caesarean section.

[Evolution of a method for breech deliveries during 1946-1990 in material from the 1st Obstetric Clinic of the Medical Academy in Wrocław].

The analysis of 2191 breech deliveries in the 1st Obstetrics Clinic of Medical Academy in Wrocław shows that there was a steady increase in the percentage of cesarean sections (from 0.8% in 1946-1955 to 59.6% in 1986-1990) and a decrease in the number of vaginal deliveries, especially manual procedures.

[Personal experience with obstetric care of diabetic pregnant women].

The authors, basing in the survey of literature and on own experience, discuss pregnancy in diabetic patients together with possible complications. Pregnancy exerts an unfavourable effect on diabetes mellitus with significant vascular disorders being in some cases even life-threatening. An of clinical status of the diabetes mellitus should be always carefully assessed in every diabetic woman to avoid serious complications, which may occur later-during possible pregnancy.
