Purpose: Shear wave elastography (SWE) is a valuable tool in discerning the malignancy risk of thyroid nodules. This study investigates whether 2D-SWE can reliably differentiate malignant thyroid nodules in patients with chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (CAT), despite the challenges posed by fibrosis, which can increase tissue stiffness and complicate diagnosis.

Methods: This retrospective observational study evaluated 130 thyroid nodules (91 benign, 39 malignant) in patients with underlying CAT using conventional ultrasound (B-mode) and 2D-SWE with SuperSonic Mach30 equipment (Supersonic Imagine, Aix-en-Provence, France).

Single-atom heterogeneous catalysts (SACs) are potential, recoverable alternatives to soluble organometallic complexes for cross-coupling reactions in fine-chemical synthesis. When developing SACs for these applications, it is often expected that the need for ligands, which are essential for organometallic catalysts, can be bypassed. Contrary to that, ligands remain almost always required for palladium atoms stabilized on commonly used functionalized carbon and carbon nitride supports, as the catalysts otherwise show limited activity.

Introduction: Obesity is a growing public health issue, especially among young adults, with long-term management strategies still under debate. This prospective study compares the effects of caloric restriction and isocaloric diets with different macronutrient distributions on body composition and anthropometric parameters in obese women during a 12-week weight loss program, aiming to identify the most effective dietary strategies for managing obesity-related health outcomes.

Methods: A certified clinical nutritionist assigned specific diets over a 12-week period to 150 participants, distributed as follows: hypocaloric diets-low-energy diet (LED, 31 subjects) and very low-energy diet (VLED, 13 subjects); isocaloric diets with macronutrient distribution-low-carbohydrate diet (LCD, 48 subjects), ketogenic diet (KD, 23 subjects), and high-protein diet (HPD, 24 subjects); and isocaloric diet without macronutrient distribution-time-restricted eating (TRE, 11 subjects).

Colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) are active materials in different applications, wherein their shape dictates their properties, such as optical or catalytic properties, and, thus, their performance. Hence, learning to tune the NC shape is an important goal in chemistry, with implications in other fields of research. A knowledge gap exists in the chemistry of non-noble metals, wherein design rules for shape control of NCs are still poorly defined compared to those of other classes of materials.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the use of a composite material (Fe-BTC/PpPDA) made from a metal-organic framework and redox-active oligomers for efficiently extracting gold from various leaching solutions, particularly those found in electronic waste.
  • Fe-BTC/PpPDA was synthesized on a large scale and demonstrated a high gold recovery capacity, achieving around 600 mg of gold per gram before breakthrough and a recovery rate of about 60% in solutions containing gold chloride species.
  • The research highlighted the composite's exceptional selectivity for gold over other metals (Au/Ni, Au/Co, Au/Fe) and showed that the redox-active oligomers play a crucial role in
