Introduction: This study summarizes outcomes in treating pseudotumors of the hip at a tertiary referral center and introduces a classification system to aid treatment decisions and enhance communication among providers.
Materials And Methods: We collected data from 39 patients who underwent surgery for hip pseudotumor, analyzing implant failures based on patient history, revision reasons, bearing surface type, mass location and size, bone loss, revision type, and whether it was single- or two-stage. We introduce the PCS classification: 'P' for Pseudotumor (with 's' for symptomatic, 'e/I' for intra/extrapelvic location, and 'm' for high Chromium/Cobalt levels), 'C' for implant status, and 'S' for bone loss extent.
Background: Patients affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total hip arthroplasty (THA). This patient population has a higher risk of recurrent infections and hospitalization. The aim of this study is to compare the profile of microorganisms in patients with CKD and PJI of the hip versus controls and to individuate potentially unusual and drug-resistant microorganisms among the causative bacteria.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: Three-dimensional (3D) planning and Patient Specific Instrumentation (PSI) can help the surgeon to obtain more predictable results in Medial Opening Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy (mOW-HTO) than the conventional techniques. We compared the accuracy of the PSI and standard techniques and measured the learning curve for surgery time and number of fluoroscopic shots.
Methods: We included the first 12 consecutive cases of mOW-HTO performed with 3D planning and PSI cutting guides and the first 12 non-supervised mOW-HTO performed with the standard technique.
Background: We created a Multicenter Survey for Italian orthopedics surgeons on how they approach leg length discrepancy when dealing with primary total hip arthroplasty. Aim of the study was to show how surgeons manage LLD and follow literature recommendations during clinical practice.
Methods: The Survey was composed of 25 questions divided in 4 sections: surgeon's profile, preoperative and intraoperative evaluation, postoperative management.
Background: Tibiofemoral components rotational congruency affects the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) success. The smart insert sensor (I-S) helps to establish tibial component rotation reciprocally to a fixed femoral rotation. We aimed (1) to validate the use of I-S as a possible tool to reach reproducible reciprocal femorotibial rotation (RftR) in TKA independently from anatomic landmarks, reducing outliers in combined and mismatched femorotibial rotation (CftR and MMftR, respectively) positioning and (2) to validate the "curve-on-curve" method for a specific type of asymmetrical tibial component.
