HLA antigens in gouty patients.

Lymphocytes from 26 patients with primary gout were typed for eighteen antigens from A and B loci. An increased "relative risk" of the disease was established in patients carrying antigen HLA-B14, but the correlation is not sufficient for using HLA typing as a diagnostic tool in the gout. Nevertheless HLA-B14 seems to be one of the genetic factors which predispose to the appearance of the articular lesions.

HLA antigens were typed in 42 asymptomatic carriers of HBs antigen and in 20 carriers of anti-HBs antibodies. An increased frequency of HLA-B8 antigen was detected in the group of HBs antigen carriers (p less than 0.025).
