Pregnant and/or parenting students (PPS) face unique challenges to attending college. The prevalence of housing insecurity may be higher among college PPS. Adding to the limited research in this area, our study explores how housing could be a barrier to attending and maintaining academic success in college for PPS.

SEEK: a systems biology data and model management platform.

Background: Systems biology research typically involves the integration and analysis of heterogeneous data types in order to model and predict biological processes. Researchers therefore require tools and resources to facilitate the sharing and integration of data, and for linking of data to systems biology models. There are a large number of public repositories for storing biological data of a particular type, for example transcriptomics or proteomics, and there are several model repositories.

Benzo(a)pyrene-induced acute neurotoxicity in the F-344 rat: role of oxidative stress.

Given the link between neurotoxicity and exposure to pollutants, the potential behavioral neurotoxicity of benzo(a)pyrene [B(a)P] was investigated. Studies have established that B(a)P requires metabolic activation to highly reactive species to elicit many of its adverse effects. This study investigated the perturbation of nervous system function by correlating behavioral changes with the metabolism of B(a)P, antioxidant enzyme levels and lipid peroxidation in selected brain regions.

Efficacy of sucrose to reduce pain in premature infants during eye examinations for retinopathy of prematurity.

Background: Eye examinations for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) are painful to the neonate. The use of topical anesthetic for eye examinations to evaluate ROP is routine in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), but does not completely suppress painful responses. Sweet solutions have been shown to reduce procedural pain in newborns.
