Continuous Illumination of a Conjugated Polymer Causes Strong Enhancement of Photoluminescence.

We present measurements of absorbance and photoluminescence (PL) for films of poly(3-(2,5-dioctylphenyl)thiophene) (PDOPT) as a function of temperature () and time () of illumination. While having no detectable influence on absorbance of this conjugated polymer, our experiments clearly revealed that illumination of PDOPT caused a significant increase in the PL intensity ((,)), that is, the emission probability of PDOPT. Without illumination, we always observed a decrease in with time.

Conceiving one's national group as transgenerational: Effects on attitudes towards 'foreign' and diaspora migrants.

The current paper presents three studies, which suggest that perceiving one's nation as transgenerational (TG) is related to a differentiation in the evaluation of ethnically German diaspora migrants and ethnically non-German ('foreign') migrants. First, we find that unlike 'classical' concepts such as right-wing authoritarianism (RWA), social dominance orientation (SDO), and hierarchic self-interest (HSI), TG explains differences in derogatory sentiments expressed towards diaspora and 'foreign' migrants. Second, TG is differentially related to positive emotions and behavioral intentions expressed towards these two groups of migrants.

Direct observation of backbone planarization via side-chain alignment in single bulky-substituted polythiophenes.

The backbone conformation of conjugated polymers affects, to a large extent, their optical and electronic properties. The usually flexible substituents provide solubility and influence the packing behavior of conjugated polymers in films or in bad solvents. However, the role of the side chains in determining and potentially controlling the backbone conformation, and thus the optical and electronic properties on the single polymer level, is currently under debate.

Objectives: Tobacco use is the nation's leading cause of preventable illness and death, causing a significant burden on the health care system. Many cessation pharmacotherapy treatment options are available to help smokers quit, including nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) and prescription medications. Research indicates that pharmacists are able to provide a positive benefit to smokers who want to quit through pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions.

Optimal management of distal ureteric strictures following renal transplantation: a systematic review.

Our objective was to define optimal management of distal ureteric strictures following renal transplantation. A systematic review on PubMed identified 34 articles (385 patients). Primary endpoints were success rates and complications of specific primary and secondary treatments (following failure of primary treatment).
