Food availability has been endangered by recent global events, where agriculture, the main food source for the global population, is expected to increase even more to fulfill the growing food demand. Along with food production, water and energy consumption are also increased, leading to over-extraction of groundwater and an excess emission of greenhouse gases due to fossil fuel consumption. In this context, a balance of these three resources is crucial; therefore, the water-energy-food nexus is considered to address the previous issues by designing an energy-water management system based on robust predictive control.

Exoglycosidase enzymes hydrolyze the N-glycosylations of cell wall enzymes, releasing N-glycans that act as signal molecules and promote fruit ripening. Vesicular exoglycosidase α-mannosidase enzymes of the GH38 family (EC 3.2.

Alcohol acyltransferases (AATs) play a crucial role in catalyzing the transfer of acyl groups, contributing to the diverse aroma of fruits, including strawberries. In this research we identified nine AAT genes in strawberries through a comprehensive analysis involving phylogenetics, gene structure, conserved motifs, and structural protein model examinations. The study used the 'Camarosa' strawberry genome database, and experiments were conducted with fruits harvested at different developmental and ripening stages.

Article Synopsis
  • Advanced respiratory failure requiring tracheostomy is prevalent in heart transplant patients, with about 28.6% needing the procedure within approximately 11.5 days post-surgery.
  • Significant risk factors for requiring a tracheostomy include a history of stroke, previous sternotomy, longer cardiopulmonary bypass time, primary graft failure, renal replacement therapy, and higher daily mean SOFA scores.
  • Patients who needed a tracheostomy had a markedly higher one-year mortality rate (50%) compared to those who did not require one (16%), suggesting that tracheostomy is an indicator of poor prognosis in heart transplant recipients.
